YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University baseball team fell to the University of Massachusetts, 4-2, in the first all-time meeting between the two Mid-American Conference programs Friday, April 10, at Oestrike Stadium.

The game was tied at one run apiece before a three-run sixth inning put the Minutemen ahead, 4-1, as they led the remainder of the contest.

John Carmichael (Destrehan, La./Destrehan/McLennan C.C.) (0-5) started on the mound for Eastern and went five innings, allowing one earned run off six hits while striking out six and walking two. UMass' Caden Powers (3-3) earned the win and Cole Egan (Pittsburgh, Pa./West Allegheny/George Mason) (2-3) was tagged with the loss.

How it Happened
Eastern struck first in the bottom of the third with an RBI double off the bat of Devan Zirwas (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny/VCU), scoring John Hale (Ashland City, Tenn./Sycamore/Motlow State C.C.) from second base. The Minutemen tied it up in the ensuing half inning with a two-out RBI-single up the middle.

UMass took the lead in the top of the sixth, plating three runs to pull ahead, 4-1.

Eastern scored one run in the bottom of the ninth as Nick Weaver (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood/Elgin C.C.) put the ball in play to send Leewood Molessa (Pullman, W. Va./Williamstown/UMBC) home. Eastern's rally was stopped there as the next two batters were retired, ending the game in a 4-2 final in favor of the visiting Minutemen.
