Tennis Drops Doubleheader in Kentucky

Eastern fell to Eastern Kentucky and Chattanooga in a same-day doubleheader
RICHMOND, Ky. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University tennis team suffered a pair of defeats in a same-day doubleheader Friday, Feb. 6, inside the Greg Adams Tennis Center in Richmond, Ky., as the Eagles fell to host Eastern Kentucky University and the University of Tennessee Chattanooga. The Eagles (6-3) opened the day with a 4-1 setback to the host Colonials (2-5) before ending the day in a 4-0 loss to the Mocs (3-1).
HOW IT HAPPENED • EKU
The host Colonels took the doubles point for a 1-0 lead before doubling the advantage with a victory at No. 4 singles. Eastern picked up its lone point of the day as Cylova Zuleyka Hukmasabiyya (Serang, Indonesia/SMAN 2 Kota Serang) battled for her first win at No. 1 singles where the rookie scored a 7-6(4), 6-3 win to cut the deficit to 2-1. EKU, however, closed out the team match by winning bouts at No. 2 and No. 3 to grab the final two points and the win as the two teams were playing to clinch.

Later in the day, the Eagles stepped back onto the courts to face the Mocs and fell behind 1-0 after dropping the doubles point for just the third time in 2026. From there, Chattanooga was able to win the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 singles matches in straight sets to secure the 4-0 win and close the Eagles' trip to the Bluegrass State.
NOTING THE TEAM
» Following the results of the day, the Eagles fell to 6-3 while the Colonels improved to 2-5 and the Mocs to 3-1.
» Eastern is now 8-4 all-time against Eastern Kentucky and 4-3 when playing in Richmond, Ky., with the Colonels winning for the second consecutive meeting. The match between EMU and UTC was the first in the series.
» The Eagles are 103-56 all-time in neutral site matches following the setback to the Mocs.
» Eastern played in its 59th same-day doubleheader and its second of three this season. The Eagles fell to 82-36 in those doubleheaders with a 38-21 record in the opening match and a 44-15 mark in the second.
