Eagles shift their focus to weekend series at Austin Peay
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team dropped a midweek series finale, 16-2, in seven innings against Vanderbilt University at Hawkins Field Wednesday, Feb. 18.
Eastern will shift its focus to a three-game series at Austin Peay, Friday-Sunday, Feb. 20-22.
How it Happened
Vanderbilt took an early 9-0 lead after the first inning. Eastern plated one run in the second as Nick Weaver (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood/Elgin C.C.) scored on a wild pitch after reaching base with a walk.
The Commodores tacked on four more to their total in the second, before Carter White (Shelby County, Ky./Shelby County/Lincoln Memorial) came to the mound and struck out six of the nine batters he faced.
Vanderbilt scored three runs in the sixth inning and Eastern scored its final run in the top of the seventh with Keegan Knupp (Galena, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) scored off Ty Stecko's (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin/Mount St. Mary's) hit by pitch. The game ended in seven innings in a 16-2 final in favor of the Commodores.
Game Notes
» Eastern's record shifted to 1-4 (0-0 MAC) and Vanderbilt's went to 3-2 (0-0 SEC).
» Carter White struck out an NCAA Division I career-high six batters. His total is the most from an Eagle in a single game this season.
» Carter White, Fischer Hendershot (Flushing, Mich./Flint Powers), and Emmett Gillies (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley/Akron) each tossed scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Hendershot and Gillies' appearances marked their second consecutive performance without allowing a run, as neither has allowed a run in the season's early going.

» Jack Angus (Darien, Ill./Montini Catholic/Stetson) made his first appearance as an Eagle and Keegan Knupp scored the first run of his collegiate career.
» Ty Stecko drove in his fourth run of the season and 41st of his Eastern Michigan career.
