YPSILANTI, Mich. – Although the 2024-25 collegiate season has ended, the Eastern Michigan University men's golfers are not remaining idle as the Eagles have and will play in events all around the globe this summer. Check back here throughout the summer for updates on the players as they battle tough competition on spectacular settings as they hone their craft before returning to campus at the end of August.

EAGLES STAYING BUSY THIS SUMMER COMPETING INTERNATIONALLY
The Eagles were busy throughout June and July as they competed individually throughout Europe while several represented their nations in international competitions. Here are some of the highlights from the past six weeks of action:
BOX BATTLED FOR THE OPEN
Charlie Box attempted to qualify for 153rd playing of The Open, one of the four majors in professional golf as he took to the qualifying rounds to try and earn a spot. He opened his quest by competing in the Regional Qualifying Round (June 24) at Fulford GC in Heslington, England, where he shot 1-under 71 to tie for fourth place and automatically qualified to advance. From there, he took part in the Final Qualifying Round (July 1) at the Burnham & Berrow GC in Somerset, England, where he shot 5-over 147 (70-77) to finished tied for 45th in the event where only the top five finishers advanced to The Open at Royal Portrush.
HESS COMPETES FOR SWITZERLAND
Joshua Hess represented Switzerland at the 2025 European Amateur Team Championship (July 8-12 in Ireland) where the Swiss finished ninth overall by winning the Flight B Championship. In match play, he was 1-0-1 in individual matches and 1-0-0 in foursomes as Switzerland defeated Estonia (3-2), Poland (4-1), and the Netherlands (3-2).
NEWEST EAGLE GRABS TWO WINS
Carlos Fernandez Mortera, who joined the program July 7, played in three tournaments in his native Spain and won twice as he captured medalist honors at the Campeonato Excmo Ayuntamiento de Llanes and Campeonato del Principado de Asturias Absoluto. He then led the charge for the Asturias principality at the Spanish FFAA Men's Championships where he tied for eighth place in stroke play before helping his team to fourth place in match play.
STRONG LIKE (TURN)BULL
Robby Turnbull represented Team New Zealand at the 2025 Toyota Junior Golf World Cup in Toyota, Japan (June 24-27) where he tied for 10th place individually, the best among the three-man team from New Zealand. Overall, the team tied for seventh place at 13-under with Japan (-32) and the U.S. (-30) taking the top two spots. He followed that performance by winning the Tieke Strokeplay 2025 at 10-under 203 in Tamahere, New Zealand, capturing medalist honors by six strokes.

FOUR EAGLES TAKE ON THE OLD COURSE AT HISTORIC ST. ANDREWS

The Old Course & The New Course (Jubilee) at St. Andrews • Fife, Scotland
June 5-8
Four Eagles competed in the St. Andrews Links Trophy event on the Old Course and the New Course (Jubilee) at the "Home of Golf" in Fife, Scotland, June 5-8. The four Eagles were among 144 players from around the world to compete in an event that has been played since 1989 and played on revered St. Andrews, a course of over 600 years in age that has played host to The Open Championship 30 times.
