YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University men's track and field student-athlete Lachlan Cornelius ran a Mid-American Conference (MAC)-best 800m for the second consecutive weekend as he won the event in 1:48.38 at the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet, hosted by Grand Valley State University, at the GVSU Lacrosse/Track & Field Stadium Saturday, April 26.

Cornelius' (Queensland, Australia/Anglican Church Grammar School) time ranks sixth in the Great Lakes Region, 42nd on the East Qualifying List, and eighth in program history while also marking a personal-best for the sophomore. Additionally, his time is the fastest 800m from an Eagle since former Olympian Paul McMullen ran a 1:46.48 in 1995.

His time came over a weekend that also saw the Eagles compete at the Hillsdale College Tune-Up, hosted by Hillsdale College, at the Hillsdale Outdoor Track at Hayden Park, in Hillsdale, Mich., Friday, April 25.

Overall, the Eagles earned six first-place finishes (three for each team), 19 top-three finishes (10 for the women, nine for the men), 22 personal-bests (14 for the men, eight for the women), 12 season-bests (eight for the women, four for the men), one MAC-best mark, and one time that ranks on the East Qualifying List over the two-meet weekend.

How it Happened – Men at GVSU Extra Weekend Meet
For the second straight weekend, Cornelius ran a MAC best in the 800m, placing first in a personal-best 1:48.38, a time that ranks eighth in program history. Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College) followed in second in a career-best 1:48.77 that ranks him second in the conference behind Cornelius.

Cornelius' time ranks sixth in the Great Lakes Region and 42nd on the East Qualifying List. For Wiles, his time stands ninth in the region.

How it Happened – Men at Hillsdale Tune-Up
The 1500m was a strong race for the Eagles, led by AJ Hawkins' (Worthington, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) first-place finish in a personal-best 4:006.2, all four Eagles set career-best marks in the race including Aaron Schwieterman's (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) 4:03.03 that earned him third place.

Jake McEachern (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive) earned his first collegiate win in the hammer throw with a toss of 60.62m (198-11) to highlight the thrower's performances.

Distance continued to shine in the 800m as Drew Graves (Shelby Township, Mich./Henry Ford II) and Nicholas Kline (Grand Rapids, Mich./Kenowa Hills) each collected personal-best times. Graves placed second in 1:52.84 and Kline crossed the line in third in 1:54.89.

The Green and White excelled in the 110m hurdles as all four Eagles running in the prelims punched their ticket to the final, paced by Matt McKnight's (Miami, Fla./Miami Norland Senior) personal-best 14.96 for a third-place finish. McKnight went on to crush that PR in the finals, placing fourth in 14.61 and setting a new standard by .35 seconds. Mill Coleman III (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Central) also recorded a career-best in the finals, placing fifth in 14.95.
