Lupa Qualifies for NCAA Championships in Platform Dive, Divers Finish NCAA Zone Diving Championships

Lupa is the first Eagle to qualify in the platform dive in 36 years

COLUMBUS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University diver Megan Lupa qualified for the NCAA Championships in the platform dive, placing 10th in the finals with a combined score of 480.20 points at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, hosted by Ohio State University, at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion Monday-Wednesday, March 10-12.
Lupa (Campden, Ontario/West Niagara Secondary) is just the second qualifier in the platform dive in program history, and the first in 36 years when Mugs Cullings qualified and finished 13th with a score of 297.95.
The freshman's qualification is the Eagles' first since Bethany Berger qualified in the 1m dive in the 2021 season, as well as the program's 16th all-time NCAA qualifier, nine of which are divers, and the first qualification in the Head Diving Coach Tom Gimm era.
How it Happened
On the final day of competition, March 12, Lupa punched her ticket to the national championships with a combined score of 480.20. She started the day with a collegiate personal-best 239.90 points, finishing tenth, before besting that score in the finals, putting up 240.30 points.
Taityn Speier (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson), Malia Maire (San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo), Rebekah Knapp (Mesa, Ariz./Skyline), and Ciara Wheeler (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) competed in the 1m dive prelims, Tuesday, March 11. They were led by Speier, who placed 21st with 240.65 points.
The 3m prelims, held on the first day of the meet, Monday, March 10, featured Lupa and Knapp. Lupa paced the Eagles with a 25th-place finish, scoring 258.15 points.
