Eastern Erases 16-Point Halftime Deficit, Edged by Bowling Green

Eagles tied the game six minutes into second half
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team rallied to erase a 16-point halftime deficit but was edged by Bowling Green State University, 65-60, Tuesday, Feb. 25, in Mid-American Conference action inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center.
Jalin Billingsley (Cleveland, Ohio/Lutheran East/Georgetown) was a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor for 13 points to go with eight rebounds, three steals, and two steals while Jalen Terry (Flint, Mich./Beecher/Oregon/DePaul) led the Eagles with 14 points.
How it Happened
Eastern started cold from the field, missing its first 14 three-pointers, resulting in a 25-16 BGSU lead.
A 9-0 BGSU run put the Falcons up, 34-16, their largest lead of the game before settling for a 35-19 halftime advantage.
The Eagles shot a lackluster 8-of-34 (23.5%) from the floor in the opening half, which included a stretch of one make over 17 shots.
Eastern was not deterred, scoring the second half's first 12 points, holding the Falcons scoreless the first 5:18 of the period.
EMU continued its run, tying the game at 36-36 on an Arne Osojnik (Ljubljana, Slovenia/Dream City Christian) three-pointer at the 13:59 mark.
A 7-0 spurt gave BGSU a 53-45 lead prior to the Eagles cutting the margin to 55-52 on a Terry jumper at the 5:07 mark before the Falcons put in a trio of free throws in the final 28 seconds to secure the win.
Despite tying the contest on three occasions in the second half, the Eagles never led in the contest despite going 18-of-29 (62.1%) from the field in the final 20 minutes.

» Eastern moved to 14-14 overall and 7-8 in the MAC while Bowling Green moved to 12-16 overall and 6-9 in conference action.
» Eastern Michigan was 26-of-63 (41.3%) from the floor and 6-of-28 (21.4%) from three-point range while Bowling Green was 23-of-50 (46.0%) from the field and 9-of-17 (52.9%) from deep.
» Billingsley entered the day ranked fifth in the MAC in field goal percentage at .549. With his 6-for-6 effort, he upped his conversion rate to 56.2%.
» Terry made two three-pointers and has converted multiple three-pointers in each of the last seven contests, making at least four in four of those games.
» Terry, the MAC leader in minutes at 37.2 minutes per game entering Tuesday, played all 40 minutes, marking the second time this season he was not subbed out.
» Arne Osojnik registered seven points, 10 rebounds, a career-high five assists, three steals, and one block. Osojnik is the only player in the MAC this season to record that stat line or better and the first Eagle to have at least those numbers since at least the 2001-02 season. Tuesday's game marks his second career game with double-digit boards. Osojnik scored 16 points with 11 rebounds for his first career double-double at Bowling Green, Jan. 18.
» Da'Sean Nelson (Toledo, Ohio/Robert S. Rogers/Kilgore College/DePaul) recorded one block and has at least one block in 12 of the last 13 games. Nelson has 24 blocks during the 13-game stretch (1.9 per game) and multiple blocks in six of those games.
» John Shanu II (Houston, Texas/Sam Houston/Old Dominion/UTRGV) logged a season-high six points and one block in his sixth-straight start.
» Eastern posted six blocks, marking 24-straight games with at least one block, the team's longest streak since blocking at least one shot in every game during the 2021-22 season.
» The Eagles reached the free throw line just four times, converting twice, after reaching the line 36 times in their most recent game at Northern Illinois, Feb. 22. The four shots from the charity stripe are the lowest this season, six shy of the 10 attempts against Toledo, Feb. 15. Eastern's four free throws are its fewest since going 2-of-3 from the line against Miami, March 2, 2024.
