CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Coming off a 35-foot buzzer-beater to stun Northern Illinois, Feb. 22, Eastern Michigan University men's basketball senior guard Jalen Terry has been named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week for the second-straight week, the MAC announced Monday, Feb. 24.
Terry (Flint, Mich./Beecher/Oregon/DePaul) put together an outstanding week for the Eagles even without the buzzer-beating shot, averaging 26.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 2.5 steals, and 1.0 blocks in the two games. Terry was 9-of-18 (50.0%) from three-point range.
Terry continued his impressive stretch, helping the Eagles to a 2-0 week with wins over second-place Miami, Feb. 18, and at Northern Illinois, Feb. 22. In addition to his 35-foot shot at the buzzer to stun the Huskies, 79-76, Terry also tied the game on a lay-up with 14 seconds left. In that game, Terry scored 28 points with six made three-pointers and six rebounds, marking his fourth game with at least 25 points and six made three-pointers, doubling the amount by any Eagle player in a single season since the 2002-03 season.
The senior nearly recorded a double-double in the win over Miami, Feb. 18, netting 24 points and logging nine rebounds. Terry also added in five steals and a pair of blocks, helping Eastern record its second different three-game winning streak in conference play, which EMU had not done since the 2013-14 season.
Overall, the Flint native averaged 26.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 2.5 steals, and 1.0 blocks in the two games. Terry was 9-of-18 from three-point
Terry earned the honor for the second-straight week after a 38-point showing at Toledo, Feb. 15, and a 25-point effort at Ball State, Feb. 11. He joined Da'Sean Nelson (Toledo, Ohio/Robert S. Rogers/Kilgore College/DePaul) as Eagles to receive the award this season. Nelson has been named MAC Player of the Week three times.
