YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Da'Sean Nelson and Jalen Terry led the Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team over the Mid-American Conference's second-place team Miami, 76-66, Tuesday, Feb. 18, at the George Gervin GameAbove Center.
Nelson (Toledo, Ohio/Robert S. Rogers/Kilgore College/DePaul) scored 25 points with eight rebounds, four blocks, and three assists while Terry (Flint, Mich./Beecher/Oregon/DePaul) added 24 points with nine rebounds, two assists, three steals, and a pair of blocks in a game that Eastern led by as many as 22 points in the second half.
How it Happened
Eastern came out of the gates hot with a 21-10 lead. The RedHawks rebounded with a quick 5-0 spurt before EMU scored the game's next 11 points.
The Eagles led Miami 35-23 heading into the locker room as the RedHawks closed the half with an 8-3 run. The score at halftime was Eastern's second-largest halftime lead in a MAC game in 2024-25.
Eastern continued its quality play out of the break as the Eagles opened the half on a 16-4 spurt. Eastern Michigan held its largest lead at 55-33 with 12:51 left. Nelson scored eight points in the first 5:40 of the second half.
Miami was able to decrease the deficit to 13 points at 65-52 with 6:58 to play. After that, the Eagles took the lead 69-53 at the under four timeout.
The RedHawks drew to within 10 with a couple seconds left as the Eagles, 76-66.

» Eastern moved to 13-13 overall and 6-7 in the MAC while Miami moved to 19-7 overall and 10-3 in conference action.
» Eastern Michigan was 26-of-52 (55.4%) from the floor and 8-of-18 (44.4%) from three-point range while Miami was 25-of-63 (39.7%) from the field and 6-of-26 (23.1%) from deep.
» Nelson led the offense scoring 25 points in the win against Miami. It is the third time this season in which Nelson has been over 25 points. Additionally, it is the 10th time this season in which he has been over 20 points.
» Nelson was 3-for-4 from three-point range, marking the first time in his career with a trio of triples made in one game.

Nelson is the first MAC player to achieve that stat line or better since Central Michigan's Brian Taylor had 27 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, and four blocks, Dec. 19, 2023.
» Terry netted 24 points while pulling down nine rebounds. It is his fourth different game of the season with at least 20 points and five rebounds.
» Terry additionally finished the game with multiple blocks, ending with two. It is the second time in 2024-25 that he has had multiple blocks. He also did so against Cleveland State, Nov. 16.
» Furthermore, Terry had three steals meaning it becomes the eighth time this season in which he has had three or more steals in a game. It is the third time this year in which he has done this, scoring at least 20 points.
» Terry, the MAC leader in minutes at 36.8 minutes per game entering Saturday, played 38 minutes.
» In addition to dropping nine points, Christian Henry (Chicago, Ill./The Skill Factory/Panola College) had six assists to help get the offense going. The Chicago native has nine games this season of dishing out at least five assists.
» Jalin Billingsley (Cleveland, Ohio/Lutheran East/Georgetown) scored 12 points of his own in EMU's 76-point offensive effort and pulled down five boards. It is the 12th time that Billingsley has been over double figures this season.
» John Shanu II (Houston, Texas/Sam Houston/Old Dominion/UTRGV) recorded a career-high four rebounds, adding three points in 17 minutes of action. He registered his fourth-straight start.
» As a team, the Eagles shot 50% from the field. The game marks the 10th time this season in which the Eagles made half or more of their shots in a game.
» The Eagles as a group went to the line 19 times and made 16 of them for an 84% clip. It is the third-best percentage Eastern has shot from the line in a game in 2024-25 and the second-best in which they attempted 19 free throws or more. They went 21-for-22 against Buffalo, Jan. 25.
» Eastern posted six blocks, marking 22-straight games with at least one block, the team's longest streak since blocking at least one shot in every game during the 2021-22 season.

» EMU moved to 30-56 against Miami, snapping a three-game losing streak to the RedHawks.
» Eastern, which hit eight threes against Miami, has now hit at least one triple in 639-straight games. EMU last failed to score from downtown Jan. 24, 2004, when the RedHawks held the Eagles to 0-of-7 from behind the arc.
