Rory McDonald-O'Brien led the way for the team in their first event of 2025

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team opened its 2025 spring season Feb. 15-16 at the Gator Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida, on the Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla. The Eagles, competing in the 48th edition of the tournament, finished 14th with a 38-over 878 (290-293-296) as Rory McDonald-O'Brien led the way by tying for 45th.
 
Host Florida captured the team title with a 17-under 823 (271-274-278) on its home course, one shot ahead of Oklahoma State, who was second with a 16-under 824 (277-270-277). The top five was rounded out by Florida Gulf Coast (274-281-281) and Georgia Southern (279-272-285), who tied for third at 4-under 836, and Charlotte, who was fifth at 5-over 845 (283-277-285) on the par-72, 6,701-yard course.
 
Rory McDonald-O'Brien (Shrewsbury, England/Shrewsbury School/South Carolina Aiken) was the top EMU finisher at 8-over 218 (70-72-76) with James Baxter (London, England/Highlands School & Sixth Form) tied for 55th at 10-over 220 (72-74-74). Tim Chan (Hong Kong, China/Loretto School/New Mexico JC/VCU) shot 11-over 220 (77-72-72) and Daniel Robles Delval (Albacete, Spain/Escuela Nacional Blume/Rogers State) tied him (72-75-74) for 58th. Bavake Sihota (Caledon, Ontario/Independent Learning Center/Michigan) finished 77th with a 21-over 231 (75-76-80).
 
Up Next
The Eagles return to action next week when they travel to Henderson, Nev., to compete in the Lake Las Vegas Invitational, Feb. 24-26. The three-day tournament, hosted by Arkansas State University, will be played on the Reflection Bay Golf Course and will feature a 15-team field.
