Siefke and Belcher Record Double-Doubles in Loss to Toledo

The duo recorded a double-double in the same match for the fourth time this season

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan Volleyball student athletes Ava Siefke and Ashlynn Belcher each posted double-doubles as the Eagles fell in a four-set contest to the University of Toledo, 3-1, inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center Saturday, Oct. 4.
Siefke (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) and Belcher (Marengo, Ohio/Highland/Old Dominion) both recorded a double-double in the same match for the fourth time this season as Siefke led the team in kills with 14 while grabbing 15 digs, and Belcher paced the Green and White with 34 assists to go with 14 digs.
Freshman libero Layna Waselewsky (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern) recorded a team-high 18 digs while dishing a career-best six assists, and Siefke led the defense at the net, tying a career high with six blocks.
How it Happened
SET ONE | The Eagles found themselves in an early deficit, losing a tough first set, 25-16. Eastern Michigan trailed by as many as nine points as Toledo grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 in a set that was tied up two times before the Rockets took control.
SET TWO | Eastern Michigan fought back after dropping the first set to take set two, 25-19, evening the match at 1-1. The Eagles took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to earn the victory. Eastern opened its biggest lead of the stanza, six points, to close out the set. The Eagles' front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking six Toledo attacks in the stanza.
SET THREE | Toledo responded to win set number three, putting Eastern Michigan in a 2-1 hole. The Eagles couldn't survive a furious Toledo rally, losing, 26-24, after leading by seven points at 10-3 earlier in the set.
SET FOUR | Eastern Michigan then fell in the fourth set, 25-23, concluding the match in a 3-1 win for Toledo. The Eagles fought back from a seven-point hole at 21-14, but it wasn't enough as Toledo held on to win the final set.
Match Notes
» Eastern's record shifted to 8-9 (0-4 MAC) while Toledo's improved to 13-3 (4-0 MAC).
» Waselewsky notched her fourth career game with double figures in digs as she grabbed 18, marking her first time with 10+ digs in consecutive games in her collegiate career, as she tallied a career-best 21 in Friday's match against Bowling Green State University, Oct. 3. She added a career best in assists for the second consecutive match as well as she dished six after recording five in Friday's match.
» Siefke's 14 kills led the team, marking her 14th time doing so this season as she posted her 16th game with at least 10. Her 16 double-digit kill games are the most in the MAC this season.
» Siefke posted her eighth double-double of the season with 14 kills and 15 digs. Her eight double-doubles are the most on the team, tie for the second-most in the MAC, and mark a career best. Eastern is 5-3 this season when she records a double-double. Moreover, her 15 digs are her eighth time with at least 10 in a match this season.
» AshleeKay Christensen (Carlisle, Iowa/Carlisle) recorded her ninth match with 10+ kills this season as she drilled 11. Her nine matches with 10+ kills are the most in the MAC among freshmen.
» Belcher recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 34 assists and 14 digs, as she led the team in assists for the 17th time this season. Belcher is up to 19 double-doubles in her career while her 34 assists marked her 11th time with at least 30 in 2025. Moreover, her 14 digs marked her fifth time with at least 10 this season, elevating her career total to 18.
» Eastern had two players record a double-double (Siefke & Belcher) for the first time since Siefke and Belcher did so against Western Michigan University, Sept. 25. The match marked the fourth this season where two Eagles posted double-doubles as Eastern is 1-3 when it happens. The duo is the only pair of Eagles to each post a double-double in the same match this season.
» Ella Voorhees (Morgantown, W. Va./Morgantown/Southern Miss.) recorded 16 digs, one off her season high of 17 at IU Indy, Sept. 18. The match marked her second time with 10+ digs this season and 11th time in her career doing so.
» Taeley Mahler (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) notched a career-high six digs, besting her previous personal record of five at Northern Illinois University, Sept. 26.
Historical Notes
» The match marked the 86th between the Eagles and Falcons. Overall, Eastern holds a 61-25 mark against the Rockets and a 37-8 mark when facing them at home.
