The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team teed it up for the first time this season with the Eagles placing 14th overall at the Leadership and Golf Invitational that was played Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 16-17, at Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Wash. Savannah de Bock (Ecaussinnes-d'enghien, Belgium/Institut de l'Enfant-Jésus-Lycée/Georgia) led the way individually as she carded a 2-under, 214 to place tied for eighth overall in her Eastern debut.
 
How It Happened
De Bock was the top finisher for the Eagles, who finished 14th at 906 (296-297-313), as she shot 214 that included rounds of 68, 71, and 75, to finish tied for eighth. She spent the entire tournament among the top 10 on the player leader board and moved as his as first place for a moment. She finished the tournament with a team-high 13 birdies.
 
Mariana Vega (Barranquilla, Columbia/Colegio Karl C. Parrish) made her collegiate debut and finished second on the team at 229 (73-77-79) for an overall tie for 53rd while Riley Kim (Aldie, Va./Lightridge), the lone returning player on the roster, finished tied for 63rd at 231 (79-74-78). Transfer Julianna Go (San Juan, Philippines/St. Jude Catholic School/King) tied for 75th at 236 (76-79-81) while Amaya Melendez (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) finished tied for 80th at 239 (80-75-84) in her collegiate debut.
 
Historical Notes
» Savannah de Bock fired an opening round 68, which ties for the third-lowest score in program history. The most recent occurrence came last year with Anna Watson, a current graduate assistant coach with the team, shot 68 at the Shirley Spork Invitational at EMU, Oct. 3, 2023.
» Savannah de Bock's opening-round 68 marked just the 17th sub-70 round recorded in program history. The record holder for the most sub-70s in program history is Anna Watson with four.
» The 214 total strokes Savannah de Bock recorded ranks tied for the second-best tournament score in program history, equaling the mark set by Catherine Fortin, who shot 214 at the Shootout at the Legends, Oct. 8-9, 2007. That mark was the program record before Anna Watson finished with a 211 at the Shirley Spork Invitational, Oct. 2-3, 2023.
» Along with Savannah de Bock, three other players made their EMU debuts, including freshman Mariana Vega, sophomore transfer Julianna Go, and senior Amaya Melendez. Riley Kim is the lone returning Eagle on the 2024-25 roster.

Up Next
The Eagles return to action next week when they play in the Golfweek Red Sky Classic in Wolcott, Colo. The three-day tournament, hosted by Golfweek, will be held on the Red Sky Ranch and Golf Course and will run Monday-Wednesday, Sept. 23-25. The field is comprised of 14 teams, including No. 25 Pepperdine and two teams receiving votes in the preseason Mizuno DI WGCA Coaches Poll, EMU and Kansas.
