The EMU alum placed 14th in the preliminary round of the triple jump

PARIS, France (EMUEagles.com) – Former Eastern Michigan University men's track and field student-athlete Donald Scott completed competition in his second Olympic Games, placing 14th in the preliminary round of the men's triple jump with a 16.77m (55-00.00) leap Wednesday, Aug. 7.

Scott previously saw action in the Tokyo games in 2020, placing seventh in the triple jump with a 17.18m (56-04.50) bound.

He secured a spot in his second Olympics via a third-place finish in the triple jump, with a 16.87m (55-04.25) mark at the United States' Olympic Track & Field Trials, held at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field Sunday, June 30.

Scott continued the rich Olympic tradition in Ypsilanti, with his participation in the triple jump, Eastern has had an alumni represent the Eagles in every summer Olympics since the 1960 games in Rome, Italy.

Additionally, he became the eighth former Eagle to make multiple Olympic teams and first since Eric Alejandro made the Puerto Rican squad for the 2012 London games and the 2016 games held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

Scott was elite during his time at Eastern (2010-15), as he was named to the All-America team three times as an Eagle while earning All-MAC First Team honors five times. His name remains in MAC record books to this day as he holds both the indoor and outdoor conference meet records in the triple jump. His indoor record, set in 2015 stands at 16.38m (53-09.00) and his outdoor record went for 16.29m (53-03.50).

Moreover, the now two-time Olympian broke the program's triple jump record five times while donning the Block E. Like his conference records, both his indoor (16.84m – 55-03.00) and outdoor (16.83m – 55-02.75) program records still hold today.

Both of Scott's program records came when the lights were the brightest, at the NCAA Championships. He went back-to-back in 2015 setting the indoor mark at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Championships, March 14, followed by the outdoor record in the outdoor version of the meet, June 12.
