DEKALB, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track and field programs concluded the third and final day at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by Northern Illinois University at the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex Thursday-Saturday, May 9-11. The women's team placed second with 126.5 points while the men finished third, scoring 121 points.
Kent State University claimed the women's title with 137.5 points. After the Eagles in second came Ball State University (103). The University of Akron slotted fourth (83) and Western Michigan University finished fifth (78).
Akron emerged victorious in the men's competition with 189 points, followed by Kent State with 171 and Eastern with 121. The University at Buffalo placed fourth, scoring 103 points and Miami University rounded-out in fifth, notching 63 points.
Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Sue Parks on the EMU women
"I'm very proud of our women. We gave it all that we had this weekend. We weren't 100% healthy but we battled for every point. We had 25 women contribute to our scoring which is phenomenal. We brought the kind of energy and competitive spirit that you need to win championships; we just came up short this time. It's been a great year for our women's program."
Parks on the EMU men
"We're disappointed with our finish on the men's side. We had a number of disappointing setbacks at the beginning of the final day and it put us out of contention. The men did continue to fight and we had some nice individual performances but our team place is not where we want to be."
