Miller needs just one more hit to reach 100 in his Eastern Michigan career

OXFORD, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team battled the Miami University RedHawks in a back-and-forth affair, but ultimately fell, 11-8, Saturday, April 27, at McKie Field at Hayden Park in Oxford, Ohio.

In the batter's box, the Eagles were paced by senior Glenn Miller (Pentwater, Mich./Pentwater/Spring Arbor), who went 2-for-3 on the day with one double, one walk and an Eastern career-high four RBI.

Senior Kyle Schroedle (Redding, Calif./University Prep/Crown College) furnished a standout performance at the dish as well, going 4-for-5 with one double and two RBI.

Junior Lucas Johnson (Hamilton, Ontario/Westdale Secondary/Wright State) also chipped in for Eastern Michigan, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding one triple, his first as an Eagle, and one walk.

How it Happened
The Eagles were trailing 4-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Eastern scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Miller.

The Eagles kept the deficit at 4-3 before tying the score in the fourth. Schroedle came across to score the lone run of the inning for EMU, which evened the score at 4-4.

Miami broke up the tie and grabbed a 5-4 lead moving into the fifth. The Eagles answered with a three-run fifth inning via five consecutive two-out singles.

Eastern Michigan surrendered the lead they built in the fifth, but got back on the board in the ninth, trailing 11-7. The Eagles scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Drew Jones (Cleveland, Ohio/Brush/Ohio State), bringing the score to 11-8 in favor of the RedHawks.

The ballgame ended with that ninth inning rally falling short.

Game Notes
» Miller drove in four runs off two hits. His four RBI go down as an EMU career-high and his two knocks mark his seventh multi-hit outing of the season. Miller also tallied two hits in yesterday's contest. He has now logged consecutive multi-hit games for the first time in 2024.
» Schroedle recorded four hits and two RBI, marking his second four-hit and 15th multi-hit outing, along with his 11th game driving in multiple runs. Schroedle's 11 multi-RBI games paces the team.
» Johnson got two hits in the game for his 13th multi-hit game of the season. One of Johnson's hits went for three bases, marking his first triple since donning the script E. Johnson's three-bagger was EMU's 11th of the season, the second most in the conference.
» Eastern knocked 14 hits to Miami's 12, marking the 22nd time this season the Eagles have out-hit their opponent.
» Jones logged two hits and two RBI in the game. He is now up to seven multi-hit days and two multi-RBI outings in 2024. Jones has had multiple hits in consecutive outings as he also knocked two in Friday's contest.
» Giano Zuccaro (MIddleburg Heights, Ohio/Berea Midpark/Charleston) drew a walk in the game to extend his reached base streak to 13 consecutive games.
» Aidan Arbogast (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson/Mid-Michigan/Kellogg C.C.) singled to center field in the fifth, marking his fifth straight outing with a hit, a streak that currently leads the Eagles.

Historical Notes
» Saturday's game went down as the 132nd all-time between Eastern and Miami, after the result, the Eagles hold a 64-68 record when facing the RedHawks.
» Miller's two hits in the game brought him to 99 for his career. One more hit would land him at the century mark, joining Logan Hugo (Essexville, Mich./Essexville Garber) as Eagles to knock their 100th respective hit this season.
