YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team got three hits out of junior Lucas Johnson in a 15-5 loss to the University of Akron in Mid-American Conference action Sunday, April 21, at Oestrike Stadium.
In addition to his three hits, Johnson (Hamilton, Ontario/Westdale Secondary/Wright State) had two doubles and an RBI to lead the Eagles. Senior Blake Mcrae (Armada, Mich./Romeo/Lansing CC) furnished a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.
Junior Logan Hugo (Essexville, Mich./Essexville Garber) also chipped in for Eastern Michigan, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
How it Happened
Trailing 5-0, the Eagles first put runs on the board in the second inning. Senior Kyle Schroedle's (Redding, Calf./University Prep/Crown College) run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for EMU.
The Eagles kept the deficit at 5-2 before closing the gap further in the third. Eastern pushed across a run on Johnson's one-out RBI double, which brought the score to 5-3 in favor of the Zips.
Eastern Michigan kept the Zips off the board before narrowing the gap to 5-4 in the fifth. The Eagles scored once on an RBI single off the bat of McRae.
The Zips expanded their lead to 15-4 before the Eastern Michigan offense got back in gear, cutting into that lead in the eighth.
Freshman Nathan Ball (Bay City, Mich./Bay City John Glenn) crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Eagles, bringing the score to 15-5 in favor of Akron. The Eagles were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
