Shved/Vichare Named MAC Doubles Team of the Week

Duo honored for the second time after helping Eastern secure the doubles point against Northern Illinois
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Mid-American Conference announced its weekly tennis awards today, April 2, and, for the second time this season, the Eastern Michigan University duo of Daniella Shved and Prerna Vichare were named the MAC Doubles Team of the Week for matches played through March 31.
Shved (Holon, Israel/Ort Holon) and Vichare (Mumbai, India/Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics), playing at the No. 1 doubles position, secured a 6-2 win in the dual with Northern Illinois University at home, March 29, to help the Eagles secure the doubles point. Eastern has now secured the doubles point for the third time in MAC play after taking the doubles point four times total all of 2023. Individually, both won their singles matches with Shved victorious at No. 1 and Vichare at No. 2 with Vichare's win clinching the team win in a 6-1 score over the Huskies.
Shved and Vichare were honored earlier this season (Feb. 6) when the duo dug deep and reeled off three consecutive games won to take a 7-5 victory at No. 2 doubles and clinch the doubles point for the Eagles against the Cleveland State University Vikings, Feb. 4. It marked the second consecutive win for the pair and the second consecutive point-clinching victory after they won, 6-3, one week prior to secure the doubles point against Ferris State University at the No. 1 position in the second dual of a doubleheader.
Between the two awards earned by Shved and Vichare, the team of Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic/Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava) and Ksyusha Saenko (Voronezh, Russia/Gymnasium 2) combined to earn the doubles award, March 19. The duo battled for a 7-6(5) victory at No. 3 doubles to secure the doubles point for the Eagles at Miami University Sunday, March 17. It marked the first time this year the Eagles secured the doubles point on the road and the first time Eastern won the doubles point from Miami since April 17, 2016.

The Eagles return to action for a pair of MAC matches this week, starting Friday, April 5, when Eastern heads to DeKalb, Ill., to take on the NIU Huskies in a 2 p.m. ET (1 p.m. CT) first serve. Eastern will then return home to play host to the University at Buffalo Sunday, April 7, with a 1 p.m. first serve at the Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti.
