Eastern Falls to Morehead State in Game One

EMU and MSU will play a doubleheader tomorrow, March 16, beginning at 1 p.m.
MOREHEAD, Ky. (EMUEagles.com) – Sophomore Cooper Vance went 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI for the Eastern Michigan University baseball team in a 12-2 loss to Morehead State University Friday, March 15. Eastern moved to 5-11 on the season while Morehead State improved to 9-8 in 2024.
Vance (New Waterford, Ohio/Mohawk) led the way offensively for the Eagles, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run and an RBI. Senior Darren Kraft (Mount Pleasant, S.C./Oceanside Collegiate Academy) provided a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-2 with an RBI.
How it Happened
The Eagles got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Kraft singled up the middle, scoring junior Lucas Johnson (Hamilton, Ontario/Westdale Secondary/Wright State) from second base.
The Eagles then held Morehead State scoreless before expanding their lead in the fourth inning. Eastern Michigan picked up a run on Vance's leadoff home run, which brought the Eagles lead to 2-0.
The Eagles were unable to hold the lead, as Morehead State scored 12 times over the remaining four innings to grab the 12-2 win.
Game Notes
» Kraft drove in the Eagles' first run of the game, singling up the middle to score Johnson, giving EMU the 1-0 edge at the time. The hit marked Kraft's ninth of the season while the RBI was his seventh. Johnson's run marked his eighth of the year and third in his previous three games.
» Vance homered to right center field in the fourth inning, giving him a team-leading fourth home run of the season, while the RBI went down as his 15th, which also leads the squad.
» Eastern was strong at the plate with runners on base, as they batted .333. The trend continued in advancement opportunities, with the Eagles batting .667 in such scenarios. The EMU offense was also successful with runners in scoring position, batting at a .500 clip.
» Johnson swiped the second base of his EMU career, stealing second after knocking a single to right in the second inning. Johnson has yet to be caught stealing as an Eagle, as he is 2-for-2 on swiped bags this season. Additionally, the Hamilton, Ontario, native, is one of six Eagles yet to be caught stealing in the 2024 Campaign.
