YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track and field programs competed at the Bowen Field House Saturday, Jan. 20, for the first time in four seasons as the Eagles hosted the inaugural Bob Parks Memorial Invitational.
"It was amazing to host our first meet at home since 2020," said Director of Cross Country/Track and Field Sue Parks. "I thought we took some big steps forward as a team today and we hope to keep the momentum going through this next stretch of the season. We cannot wait to return to Bowen for the MAC's Indoor Championships in five weeks."

How it Happened
Claire Allen (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich Community) soared to new heights in the women's shot put as she set both a personal-best mark and wrote her name into the EMU indoor top-10 with a toss of 13.16m (43-02.00), placing her ninth in program history.
Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla./The-Out-of-Door-Academy) placed first in the 60m dash with a personal-best time in 7.47, tying her with former Eagle Vania Nelson for the 10th fastest time in Eastern history.
After breaking into the top 10 with a 9:23.90 3,000m time (EMU #6) at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Opener, hosted by Boston University, Dec. 2, Paige Marchant (London, Ontario/Catholic Central) did so yet again as she captured gold in the 800m in 2:09.37, the sixth-best 800m in Eagles' history.
Additionally, three other members of the women's team earned first place finishes in Micah Martin (Clinton Township, Mich./L'anse Creuse) (high jump - 1.70m (5-07.00), Faith Rono (Eldoret, Kenya/ Middle Tennessee State) (mile run - 4:59.55), and Josephine Oloye (Iwaro-Oka, Nigeria/Geomi Secondary School/Tayelolu Memorial) (400m dash – 57.13).
On the men's side, Formula Thompson (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Jamaica College/Nebraska) carved out a personal-best leap in the long jump at 7.46m (24-05.75), marking the eight best in Eagles' indoor history.
Six Eastern men secured first-place outings as Yvan Lopes Ribeiro (Nice, France/Lycée Honoré d'Estiennes d'Orves/American International) placed first in the triple jump (14.43m (47-04.00) and the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.92. Brendan Hill (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne) claimed the top spot in the high jump with a 2.10m (6-10.75) bounce. Jacob Niedzwiecki (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) placed first in the pole vault, vaulting 4.75m (15-07.00). While Gabe Singh (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Northview/Oakland) saw gold in the 400m dash as he took first in 49.02.
In his first collegiate mile, Kian Wiles (Hull, England/St. Mary's College) placed first in 4:10.68 while Sam Peterson (Charlevoix, Mich./Charlevoix) slotted first in the 3,000m in 8:29.51.

Eastern will return to the University of Michigan for the second time in the 2023-24 season as both programs are slated to compete at the Michigan Invitational at the U-M Indoor Track Building in Ann Arbor, Mich., Friday-Saturday, Jan. 26-27. The meet will begin at 12 p.m. Friday and 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
