YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University rowing program has promoted Stephanie Lamphear to a full-time assistant coach, Head Coach Kemp Savage announced Wednesday, Sept. 27. Lamphear, who rowed for the Eagles from 2015-19, served as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2022-23 season.
"We are excited to add Stephanie to our full-time staff," Savage said. "It is great to have an alumna come back to continue to build on their legacy. We are really excited to have her working with our walk-on athletes, providing them a solid base to build their varsity career."
A four-time letter winner, Lamphear made an immediate impact as a freshman for the Eagles as she competed in seven-of-nine races in her first year. Lamphear was also a member of the Third Varsity Eight boat who competed at the 2019 then-named Colonial Athletic Association Championships, aiding the program to a third-place finish with 19 points.
"I'm honored to be a part of this team once again," Lamphear said. "I look forward to working with the great coaching staff and the inspiring rowers to be a part of developing exceptional student-athletes. I believe with my experience of being in their shoes, I will help the community to grow and contribute to the team's success."
A native of Chesapeake, Va., Lamphear attended Great Bridge High School. As a rower, she competed in doubles, quads, fours and eights and led her team to an Eastern Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association Regional Championship.
