The freshman finished the tournament with 60 total digs in 11 sets played, averaging 5.45 digs per set with six service aces. Additionally, two Eagles recorded double-doubles over the weekend as both Callie Minshew and Elle McLoughlin were in sync grabbing one each versus Gardner-Webb and Morehead State, respectively. Overall, the Eagles fell in all three matches finishing the 2023 non-conference schedule 2-10, an improvement from last year's 1-11 non-conference record.
EMU IN THE CHATTANOOGA CLASSIC: The Green and White competed in the Chattanooga Classic for the first time in program history. It marked the first meeting with the hosts Mocs who sported a 9-2 overall record leading into the tournament. Eastern and Gardner-Webb met for the first time as well while the Eagles of EMU took on the Eagles of Morehead State for the sixth time in program history. The Eagles held a clean 5-0 record over the Morehead State Eagles dating back to their first meeting in 1981 until last weekend when MSU took its first program win over the Green and White.
CAN YOU DIG IT?: Three Eagles registered double-digit digs in a single match in two occasions over the weekend as Callie Minshew posted 12 (vs. Gardner-Webb) and 14 (vs. Morehead State), Elle McLoughlin put up 16 (vs. Gardner-Webb) and 10 (vs. Morehead State) and Hannah Howard led in both matches with 23 (vs. Gardner-Webb) and 21 (vs. Morehead State). It was the fourth and fifth time this season in which three different members of the team recorded double-digit digs in a single match with four against WIU, Sept. 2, serving as the team's season high. Last season, the Eagles managed to record four Eagles all with double-digit digs in the same match just one time, the 3-2 upset over Bowling Green State University, Oct. 21, 2022.
SEEING DOUBLE: Two Eagles contributed double-double performances throughout the tournament for the second time this season. Callie Minshew recorded 13 kills and 12 digs against Gardner-Webb before grabbing 13 kills and 14 digs against Morehead State to record her fifth and sixth double-double of the season and the 11th and 12th of her career, respectively. Elle McLoughlin joined Minshew on the double-doubles train for the second time this season as she also posted a double-double in both the Gardner-Webb and Morehead State matches (34 assists/12 digs vs. GWU; 25 assists/10 digs vs. MSU).
Additionally, it marked just the second and third times this season in which two Eagles accomplish the double-double feat in the same match. Earlier in the season, both Minshew (20 kills/11 digs) and McLoughlin (46 assists/13 digs) combined for two double-doubles in the 3-0 sweep over Western Illinois University, Sept. 2.
BETTER THAN LAST YEAR: Last season, the double-double mark was reached a total of eight times by three different Eagles (Sabrina Gremm (4), Kendall Burk (3), Raeven Chase (1)). This season, the mark has been exceeded as three different Eagles (Hannah Kivett (1), Elle McLoughlin (3), Callie Minshew (6)) have combined for 10 double-double performances on the season after Minshew's and McLoughlin's two each in the Chattanooga Classic.
ACE-ACE-BABY: Eastern Michigan defeated Morehead State in service aces as the Green and White recorded seven to the opposing five. It marked the fifth time (2-3) EMU has aced its opponent this season after doing so against SIUE, Aug. 25, WIU, Sept. 2, Chicago State, Sept. 8, and Chattanooga, earlier in the tournament, respectively. Last season, the Green and White aced its opponent in nine meetings, holding a 5-4 record in such games.

Howard led the team in digs in both matches for the fourth and fifth time of her early career with a career-high 23 against the Runnin' Bulldogs attack. The 23 digs topped her previous career-high 19 set in the victory over Chicago State University, Sept. 8. Additionally, it was the rookie's fifth double-digit dig performance and the fourth with 15 or more before she posted 21 digs against the Eagles of Morehead State for her sixth double-digit dig performance and the second consecutive with 20 or more.
CONSISTENT CALLIE: Callie Minshew led the Eagles for the 12th consecutive match this season after posting 10 kills at Chattanooga, 13 against Gardner-Webb, and 13 versus Morehead State. CALLIE'S CORNER: Callie Minshew earned her fifth and sixth season double-double against both Gardner-Webb and Morehead State, Sept. 16, and the 11th and 12th of her career after posting six as a Bulldog at Mississippi State (2019). Minshew's two double-double performances in the tournament marked her 29th career contest in which she has hit the double figure mark in kills and 25th time hitting the mark in digs.
With her six this season along with Elle McLoughlin's three, and Hannah Kivett's one during the CEFCU Invitational, a double-double has been recorded 10 times in the 2023 campaign from three different Eagles. Last season, the double-double mark was reached a total of eight times by three different Eagles (Sabrina Gremm (4), Kendall Burk (3), Raeven Chase (1)).

From 2001 to 2006, EMU came out victorious in eight straight meetings for their second longest win streak against the Rockets. Eastern has won five of the last 10 matchups.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE ROCKETS: EMU put up a valiant fight in the third set, but the Eagles were unable to extend the match past the minimum in a 3-0 MAC setback to Toledo Friday, Sept. 23, inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center. Raeven Chase finished with nine kills on the day to lead the Eagles' offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .444. The team received seven digs from Kendall Burk to lead them defensively.
THE EAGLES IN THE GLASS CITY: The Green and White hold a 22-14 record when playing the Rockets in the "Glass City" of Toledo, Ohio. The last time the Eagles were in the Rockets' town was in the 2021 season when EMU dropped both matches of the series, Nov. 5-6, in the Savage Arena.
