QUICK SERVES:
» The program's 48th season began with the announcing of a new coaching staff. Head coach Kevin Foeman joined the Eagles in March and added Lainey Stephenson as his assistant coach. Additionally, the program named Remy Foeman as the Director of Volleyball Operations.
» This season, the Eagles opened their nest to four "true" freshmen and five transfers to complete their "soar of eagles".
» Sept. 2, 2023, marked the day first-year head coach Kevin Foeman earned his first win as an Eastern Michigan Eagle as he and his team overcame Western Illinois University, 3-2, in the Popcorn Classic, for the first win of the 2023 season. Since then, the Eagles earned their second win of the season in a 3-0 sweep over the Cougars of Chicago State University, Sept. 8. Additionally, that contest marked Foeman's 250th career match.
» Callie Minshew led the Eagles for the ninth consecutive match over the weekend, posting double-figure kills in all three performances for her seventh, eighth, and ninth double-digit kill matches of the season, respectively, at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational, hosted by OU.
» Additionally, Callie Minshew recorded her fourth double-double of the season, the 10th of her career, after displaying 15 kills and 10 digs against the host Golden Grizzlies, Sept. 8.
» The Green and White registered one other Eagle with a double-digit performance in Sabrina Gremm, who earned 10 in the victory over Chicago State, Sept. 8.
» Freshman Aubriegh Oswald made her collegiate debut as she took the floor in three sets at Oakland, Sept. 8.
» Kendal Bonney made her EMU debut against the Golden Grizzlies, Sept. 8, as the transfer recorded one kill and two digs in the match.
» 14 different Eagles saw action in the match against Oakland, the most in any match this season.
» Hannah Howard was named to the Golden Grizzlies Invitational All-Tournament Team, marking the third different Eagle this season to be an all-tournament team honoree.

WEEKEND IN REVIEW: The Eagles earned their second victory of the season after they topped the Cougars of Chicago State Friday, Sept. 8, in a three-set sweep in the second match of the Golden Grizzlies Invitational hosted by Oakland University. Callie Minshew led the Eagles in kills in all three matches of tournament once again as she's led the team in every match with double-figure kills. Emma McMahon collected both a team-high and career-high 25 digs against Oakland while Bella Hommes chipped in 12. Elle McLoughlin led the team with 31 assists and was one of four individuals to record at least one service ace, a category McMahon led as she posted two in the four-set loss. Saturday's match against Kansas City ended in a three-set sweep in favor of the Roos as Hannah Howard posted 15 digs and Minshew led with 11 kills.

PICKING UP NO. 2 (THE GOOD KIND): EMU picked up its second win of the 2023 campaign with its 3-0 triumph over Chicago State, Sept. 8. It marked the first straight-set win for Eastern Michigan since Oct. 15, 2022, when the Eagles took down Miami University, 3-0, in Oxford, Ohio. With wins over Western Illinois and Chicago State in 2023, EMU now has multiple non-conference victories for the first time since the 2021 campaign. That season, the Eagles bested five non-conference opponents.

EMU IN THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES INVITATIONAL: The Green and White competed in the Golden Grizzlies Invitational hosted by Oakland University for the second time in program history. The first was during the 2021 season, when the Eagles went 0-2 in the tournament, falling to the Braves of Bradley University in three straight, Sept. 4, before getting swept by the Golden Grizzlies in the tournament finale, Sept. 5. Moreover, the tournament marked the 33rd meeting with Oakland (25-8), the eighth with Chicago State (5-2), and just the second with Kansas City (1-1) in program history.

DOUBLING THOSE DIGITS: Two different Eagles racked up double-digit kills throughout the Golden Grizzlies Invitational as Callie Minshew recorded 15, 13, and 11, respectively, and Sabrina Gremm grabbed 10.  The 2023 team's season-high of four different Eagles recording double-digit figures in kills was set during the CEFCU Invitational, Aug. 25-26, as Samantha Basham, Minshew, Mackenzie Gross, and Abigail Stanford all accomplished the feat.
Moreover, four different Eagles recorded double-digit digs during the tournament for the second time this season in Bella Hommes (12 vs. Oakland), Minshew (10 vs. Oakland,), Hannah Howard (19 vs. Chicago State, and 15 vs. Kansas City), and Emma McMahon (25 vs. Oakland).

CAN YOU DIG IT?: Three Eagles registered double-digit digs in a single match as Callie Minshew posted 10, Bella Hommes put up 12, and Emma McMahon led with 25, all against Oakland, Sept. 8. It was the third time this season in which three different members of the team recorded double-digit digs in a single match with four against WIU, Sept. 2, serving as the team's season high. Last season, the Eagles managed to record four Eagles all with double-digit digs in the same match just one time, the 3-2 upset over Bowling Green State University, Oct. 21, 2022.

SEEING DOUBLE: An Eagle contributed a double-double performance throughout the tournament for the third time this season. Callie Minshew recorded 15 kills and 10 digs against Oakland, Sept. 8, to record her fourth double-double of the season and the 10th of her career.
Last season, the double-double mark was reached a total of eight times by three different Eagles (Sabrina Gremm (4), Kendall Burk (3), Raeven Chase (1)). This season, three different Eagles have combined for six double-double performances, thus far.

DEBUT DAY: Freshman Aubriegh Oswald made her first collegiate appearance as she took the floor in three sets against Oakland, Sept. 8. The Michigan native recorded one kill, three block assists, and 3.0 points in her debut, all for career-highs. Additionally, Kendal Bonney also made her EMU debut against the Golden Grizzlies, Sept. 8, as the transfer from Ashland University recorded one kill and two digs in the match.

ACE-ACE-BABY: The Eagles defeated the Cougars in service aces as the Green and White recorded four to the opposing three from Chicago State, Sept. 8. It marked the third time (2-1) EMU has aced its opponent this season after doing so against SIUE, Aug. 25, and WIU, Sept. 2, respectively. Last season, the Green and White aced its opponent in nine meetings, holding a 5-4 record in such games.

GRAB A SHOVEL: Emma McMahon's 25 digs against the Golden Grizzlies marked a career-high for the sophomore, topping her 24 set against Ohio University, Oct. 7, 2022. Additionally, it was her 25th career contest hitting the double-digit mark in digs and the second time this season leading the team in the category. The 25 digs in a single match rank as an individual team high for the 2023 season, thus far.

HUNGRY HOWIE: Hannah Howard was named to the Golden Grizzlies Invitational All-Tournament Team, marking the third different Eagle this season to be an all-tournament team honoree. Howard led the team in digs for just the second time of her early career with 15 against the Roos, four short of her career-high 19 set in the victory over Chicago State, Sept. 8.

CONSISTENT CALLIE: Callie Minshew led the Eagles for the ninth consecutive match this season after posting 15 against Oakland, 13 against Chicago State, and 11 versus Kansas City. Last season, teammate Samantha Basham led the team in kills in 10 matches, one more than Minshew's current stance.

CALLIE'S CORNER: Callie Minshew earned her fourth season double-double against Oakland, Sept. 8, and the 10th of her career after posting six as a Bulldog at Mississippi State (2019). Minshew's double-double performance against the tournament hosts marked her 26th career contest in which she has hit the double figure mark in kills and 23rd time hitting the mark in digs. Additionally, it was Minshew's fourth contest producing 15+ kills this season.
With her four this season along with Elle McLoughlin's one in the Popcorn Classic, and Hannah Kivett's during the CEFCU Invitational, a double-double has been recorded six times in the 2023 campaign from three different Eagles. Last season, the double-double mark was reached a total of eight times by three different Eagles (Sabrina Gremm (4), Kendall Burk (3), Raeven Chase (1)).

ALL-TIME VS. CHATTANOOGA: Friday's contest will mark the first meeting between the two schools in program history. A member of the Southern Conference, Chattanooga sports a 9-2 overall record leading into the tournament as the Chattanooga Classic hosts. It's only two losses on the season have come from the hands of Southern Illinois University, Sept. 1, in a five-set thriller, and a 3-0 sweeping from Eastern Kentucky University, Sept. 9. Prior to its first season loss, the Mocs started on a five-game win streak which included three straight-set victories.

ALL-TIME VS. GARDNER-WEBB: Eastern and Gardner-Webb will also meet for the first time in its respective program histories. A member of the Big South Conference, the Runnin' Bulldogs enter the weekend with a 3-5 overall record, taking wins off Stony Brook (3-0), Aug. 25, N.C. Central (3-0), Sept. 2, and Hampton (3-0), Sept. 9.

ALL-TIME VS. MOREHEAD STATE: EMU and Morehead State will meet for the sixth time in program history. The Eagles hold a clean 5-0 record over the Morehead State Eagles dating back to their first meeting in 1981, which resulted in a 2-1 victory for the Green and White. Since then, EMU took wins off Morehead State in the next four match ups from the years 1987-2004. Overall, the Eagles of Morehead State have won just three total sets in their time against the Green and White.

LAST TIME AGAINST THE EAGLES: The Green and White opened the series between the two schools with a 2-1 victory and never looked back, taking the following four matches for a clean 5-0 streak over the Morehead State Eagles. The last time the two schools faced off was in the 2004 season when the two met in a neutral site in Oxford, Miss. EMU came out victorious as the team swept MSU, Sept. 3, 2004.

ON THE HORIZON: Following the Chattanooga Classic, Sept. 15-16, the team will begin Mid-American Conference play as it travels to the "Glass City" to face the Rockets of the University of Toledo, Thursday-Friday, Sept. 21-22, in Toledo, Ohio. Both matches are scheduled to begin at
