Eagles drop 3-1 contest at Northeastern to close out New England road trip
BROOKLINE, Mass. (EMUEagles.com) -- Olivia Sipsock (Medina, Ohio/Medina) tallied her first collegiate goal, but it was not enough as the Eastern Michigan University soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision at Northeastern University Sunday, Aug. 27, at Parsons Field in Brookline, Mass. The Eagles fell to 0-2-2 on the year while the host Huskies improved to 2-2-0.
How It Happened
Eastern had several solid chances in the opening half of play as Maddie O'Farrell (Haslett, Mich./Lansing Catholic) rank the crossbar with her free kick in the 3' while Sophia D'Ambra (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) saw her shot in the 29' bang into the right post. The defense held strong throughout, but the hosts grabbed a 1-0 lead in 43', just two minutes from time. On the play, NU was awarded a free kick 40 yards from the box. Faith Rosenblatt lofted the ball into the area where Alexis Legowski was able to redirect the ball with her head for a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, the hosts applied pressure and were rewarded in the 56' as the took a 2-0 lead. On the play, Lauren Dupont played the ball into the center of the box where Sofie Fox collected the pass with her back to the goal before pivoting and firing home from seven yards out. The lead rose to 3-0 in the 64' as Fox ripped a shot from the left side of the box where Ella Holland (Dunwoody, Ga./Dunwoody/Samford) made a strong diving save, only to see the ball fall to Megan Putvinksi, who touched the ball home. The Eagles did pull one back, however, as Sipsock opened her scoring account in 83'. On the play, Kate Robinson (Madison Heights, Mich./Lamphere) won a loose ball and carried it down the field where she sent a through pass to the left side of the box to Sipsock, who touched the ball past a sprawling keeper, collected the ball, and fired a shot past a defender on the line to make it 3-1.
