Eastern set for 18 league games, including nine at home

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team will play 18 Mid-American Conference games in 2024, including nine at home, the MAC announced today, Aug. 23. Game times and television selections will be announced at a later date. The 2023-24 non-conference schedule was previously announced Aug. 8.

Quick Notes
» Eastern will play 18 conference games in 2024, nine of which will be played at home inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center in Ypsilanti.
» EMU will play more than half (5-of-9) of its home MAC games in the month of January, including three of its first five.
» The Eagles' games slated for Jan. 6 (vs. Kent State University), Jan. 27 (vs. University at Buffalo), and Feb. 17 (vs. Bowling Green State University) will be part of EMU men's/women's doubleheaders.
» In a rare occurrence, the EMU men's and women's teams will also play a doubleheader on the road as both are slated to take on Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, Jan. 20.
» Eastern opens conference play at BGSU, Jan. 2, marking the second consecutive year the Eagles and Falcons have lifted the lid on the MAC slate. The last time the Eagles faced the same foe in back-to-back conference openers came in the 2006-07 and 2007-08 campaigns when EMU took on Central Michigan University.
» The Eagles will take on both CMU and Western Michigan University twice this season after playing the Chippewas twice and the Broncos once in 2023. Eastern currently holds the Michigan MAC Trophy by holding a better winning percentage last year among a trio of programs in head-to-head competition.
» With an unbalanced league slate, the four teams the Eagles will play just once in 2024 include home games with both Kent State and the University of Toledo and road trips to Ohio and Northern Illinois University.

The MAC slate gets underway Jan. 2 with the Eagles heading to Bowling Green, Ohio, for a match up with the Falcons, marking the second year in a row the two teams have opened league play against one another. The meeting with BGSU will also mark the first time since the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons the Eagles have opened MAC play against the same teams after taking on Central Michigan in those two lid lifters.

Following the opener, the Eagles will play a pair of home games, starting Jan. 6 against the Golden Flashes before closing with the Chippewas, Jan. 9. The game with Kent State will be the first of three EMU men's/women's doubleheaders on the schedule in MAC play. After a trip to Oxford, Ohio, Jan. 13, to face Miami, the Eagles are back home to welcome Ball State University, Jan. 16. Eastern returns to the road for two games, starting Jan. 20, in Athens, Ohio, against Ohio before taking on the Broncos in Kalamazoo, Mich., Jan. 23. The game with Ohio will be a rare road doubleheader as both EMU teams will be taking on the Bobcats on the same day away from home. The month closes with a pair of home games, including a Jan. 27 game with Buffalo and a Jan. 30 meeting with Akron. The Jan. 27 game will also be a doubleheader with the women.

February opens with the Eagles on the road at Northern Illinois, Feb. 3, before returning home to welcome the Rockets of Toledo, Feb. 6. After playing at a to-be-determined Sun Belt Conference opponent as part of the MAC-SBC Challenge (Feb. 10), the Eagles return home for another doubleheader with the Falcons in town, Feb. 17. Two tough road contests await Eastern next with trips to Buffalo and Ball State, Feb. 20 and Feb. 24, respectively, before the month closes Feb. 27 with a home game against WMU.

EMU will play three games in March, but only one will be at home. That game comes March 2 with the RedHawks in town before the Eagles hit the road with games at Akron, March 5, and Central Michigan, March 8, to close things out. The 2024 MAC Championship tournament follows with first-round action set to begin March 14 inside Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio. The championship final will be played March 16 with the winning team earning an automatic berth into the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
