EMU Notches Five Event Victories at the Golden Grizzlies Invite

EMU placed 17 athletes in the top five

ROCHESTER, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Golden Grizzlies Invite at Oakland University.

EMU placed 17 athletes in the top five with five event winners.

In total, 13 women placed in the top 5 including a pair of event winners while a trio of men won events and four Eagles placed in the top five.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Miranda Cadwell (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield South) won the hammer with a throw of 53.94 meters and the discus (43.79 meters) while Tirecia Walcott (Savanna-la-Mar, Jamaica-Vere Technical) won the 100 meters (12.05) to lead the women's team.

Alysse Wade (Mansfield, Ohio-St. Peter's) was second in the 100 meter hurdles in 14.26, Kilani Harvey (Orlando, Fla.-Jones-Highland CC) was second in the 200 meters (25.00) while Maura Lane (Cary, N.C.-Panther Creek-Campbell) placed second in the pole vault (3.65 meters).

Aleah Johnson (Botkins, Ohio-Botkins) finished third in the discus with a personal best throw of 39.50 meters.

Mair Edwards (Basingstoke, England-The Costello School) placed fourth in the 400 meters (55.97), Natalie Buratczuk was fourth in the high jump with a personal best of 1.55 meters and Antonia Woods (Winchester, Ohio-Grovesport Madison) finished fourth posted a personal best mark of 5.67 meters.

Angel Gazaway (Cincinnati, Ohio-Princeton) was fifth in the 100 meters (12.12), Tijana Japundzic (Belgrade, Serbia-Technical School "New Belgrade) was fifth in the 200 meters (25.54), Kayla Muir took fifth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:42.20) and Nyla Joseph-Guevara (Coral Springs, Fla.-Fort Lauderdale) was fifth in the long jump (5.62 meters).

On the men's side, Kyle Martin (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Ann Arbor Huron) won the 200 meters in 22.10, Drew Knieper (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion-Hope) won the javelin with a personal best throw of 179 feet, six inches and Dahndray Holmes (Clarksville, Tenn.-Rossview-Highland CC) won the triple jump (13.44 meters) to lead the men's team.

Richie Sadler (Greenville, S.C.-St. Charles Preparatory) was third in the 400 meters with a time of 48.39.

MEET NOTES
» Seven women posted personal bests as Sadie Williams (5:02.81), Ella Garvin (5:11.85) and Cara Weber (5:30.48) all did so in the 1,500 meters.
» Safeya Woolcook threw a personal best 40.55 meters in the hammer along with Johnson's third place throw in the discus (39.50 meters) and Buratczuk's 1.55 meter throw in the high jump to finish fourth. Antonia Woods' posted a PR with a throw of 5.67 meters to place fourth in the long jump.
» Grant Sweningson ran a personal best time of 3:56.23 to finish seventh in the 1,500 meters, Brady Messer posted a personal best time of 1:53.89 to place eighth in the 800 meters while Knieper captured the javelin with a his personal best throw of 54.73 meters.

UP NEXT: The Eagles will compete in four different meets this week as they will go to the Mt. SAC Relays at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California, the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific  in Azusa, California, the Don Kleinow Invitational at Adrian College in Adrian, Mich. and the Long Beach Invitational at Long Beach State.
