The duo won at No. 2 doubles and also picked up wins in singles

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team picked up the first point of the day in doubles, but came up just short, 4-3, in a match against Northern Illinois University inside the Chippewa Club today, April 7.

With the setback, Eastern Michigan (5-6, 2-4 MAC) dropped its second consecutive match. Meanwhile, Northern Illinois (12-12, 2-4 MAC) evened its overall ledger and picked up its MAC victory in its last five attempts.

How it Happened
Eastern Michigan got the day started in exciting fashion, winning two of the three doubles matchups to earn the point that was up for grabs.

The No. 1 pairing of  Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India-Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics) and Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava) were outstanding, winning 6-4. Tied at four games apiece, the pairing broke Miami's serve and then closed the final game out without surrendering a point.

Meanwhile, the No. 2 duo of Daniella Shved (Holon, Isreal-ORT Holon) and Wanyi Zhang (Bejing, China-Crnjanski Gimnzija (Serbia)) were incredibly efficient en route to their dominant win. The pair gave up just one game in a 6-1 effort.

Eastern found success in singles as well. Carrying over her success from doubles, Zhang won her match at the No. 3 spot. After taking the first set, 6-3, Zhang showed resilience in the second, winning a tiebreaker, 7-3, to claim the set, 7-5. Shved was just as good at the No. 4 slot, winning in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

Despite the effort, Eastern Michigan was unable to find a fourth point, and thus a victory.

Match Notes
» Zhang has now picked up four singles victories in a row and has the third-most singles wins on the team this season (6). Her current four-match win streak is the longest on the team this season. She is also now 4-2 in Mid-American Conference play. Her win total (4), and win percentage (66%) are tied for team bests against conference opponents.
» Shved picked up her team-leading eighth singles win with her victory today. Additionally, she moves to 4-2 against conference opponents, which equals Zhang for the team-best mark.
» The doubles team of Zhang and Shved continues to be one of the best in the Mid-American Conference. With their win today, the duo moved to 7-2 on the season. That number is the best of any pairing for the Eagles this season.
» With their win today, the No. 1 duo of Vichare and Brichackova picked up their second win as a team. They are the second pairing to pick up multiple victories in doubles this season, along with Shved and Zhang.
