Rowing Heads to Virginia for George Mason Invite

FAIRFAX STATION, Va. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University rowing team will once again travel east this Sunday, April 23, to compete at the George Mason University Invitational on the Occoquan Reservoir. The first EMU race is slated to begin at 10:30 a.m.
ON THE SCHEDULE: The Eagles' First and Second Varsity Eight boats, along with the Varsity Four, will race at the invitational Sunday. The morning will see the squads race in their respective heats, followed by Petite and Grand finals in the afternoon.
The Varsity Four will race first in the second heat of the fours race at 10:30 a.m. The Second Varsity Eight is up next in the first heat at 10:50 a.m. The First Varsity Eight will follow in the first heat at 11:10 a.m.
FAMILIAR FOES: The Green and White will face familiar Colonial Athletic Association opponents, including the University of Delaware and Villanova University. West Virginia University and Duquesne University, who the team saw in competition last weekend, will also be in attendance.
LAST TIME OUT: Last weekend, EMU appeared in two competitions, at the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, N.J., April 15-16, and at the Spartan Invitational in Laingsburg, Mich., April 15.
At the Knecht Cup, the First and Second Varsity Eights qualified for their respective final races after the first day of competition. The Second Varsity Eight raced a 7:32.24 in the Petite Final while the First Varsity Eight finished with a time of 7:23.92 in the Third Final.
At the Spartan Invitational, the Third Varsity Eight raced twice against Michigan State University's Third Varsity and Novice Eight boats.
LAST TIME AT THE MASON INVITE: The Eagles last competed at the George Mason Invitational April 14, 2019. EMU's Second, Third Varsity Eight and Varsity Four squads took home first place finishes in their respective B Finals on the Occoquan Reservoir. Current volunteer coach Stephanie Lamphear and graduate student Caitlin Cleypool were members of the first place Second Varsity Eight boat who finished with a time of 6:55.40.
ON THE HORIZON: Eastern Michigan will host the University of Dayton, April 29, on Ford Lake in its final competition of the regular season. Start time will be determined at a later date.
