EMU set to close regular season Sunday at Buffalo
MUNCIE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team picked up two singles wins, but was unable to outlast Ball State University, who defeated the Eagles 5-2, in a Mid-American Conference match today, April 21, in Muncie, Ind.
Eastern Michigan (6-8, 3-6 MAC) nearly secured the doubles point and played tough up and down the singles lineup, but in the end, Ball State (19-3, 8-1 MAC) was able to pick up their 19th victory of the season.
How it Happened
The day started with doubles, where Eastern Michigan hung tight in each position. The No. 1 pair of Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India-Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics) and Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava) were unable to finish their match, but had BSU on the ropes, with the score at 6-5 in favor of the Cardinals when doubles play was halted.
Eastern was competitive at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions as well, but ultimately fell in both slots, 6-4.
On the singles side, Eastern was able to find a pair of points. First-year Eagle Daniella Shved (Holon, Isreal-ORT Holon) was outstanding in the No. 2 spot, winning her match in straight sets. The accomplishment wasn't without challenge, as she had to win a second-set tiebreak, 7-4, to secure the victory, 6-3, 7-6.
Shved was joined by Brichackova as a singles winner at the No. 4 spot. Another close match, she won the first set, 6-4, before falling, 6-4, in the second set. The third set was played as a super tiebreaker (first to 10 points), where Brichackova won, 10-7.
Match Notes
» Shved continues to make an impact for EMU as she moved to a team-best 11-2 in singles play with her victory today. Her total wins (11), and win percentage (85%) are both team-bests for the first-year Eagle.
» Brichackova kept pace as the second-leading singles player with her win in today's contest. She is now 10-4 on the season.
