The rivals will meet for the second time in one week, this time in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team is back in action tomorrow, March 31, when it travels to Kalamazoo, Mich. for a battle with in-state and Mid-American Conference rival, Western Michigan University. Play will get underway at 1 p.m.

Eastern (4-4, 1-2 MAC) enters the match in hopes of evening the season series with Western (10-5, 1-2 MAC), as the Broncos bested the Eagles, 5-2, last Friday, March 24.

The Eagles will return home to face off against Ball State University (13-3, 2-1 MAC) Sunday, April 2. The Cardinals will host Northern Illinois University Friday before making the trek to Ypsilanti. The match between the Eagles and Cardinals will begin at 1 p.m. inside the Chippewa Club.

LAST TIME OUT: Eastern picked up its first MAC victory of the season Sunday, March 26, with a 6-1 decision over Bowling Green State University inside the Chippewa Club. Eastern Michigan's 6-1 margin of victory is the best for the team against a MAC opponent since it defeated Northern Illinois University, 6-1, in a match, April 20, 2018.

The win moved Eastern's overall record back to an even ledger on the season, and breaks a two-match losing skid for the Green and White.

EMU wasted no time collecting the doubles point in the match. The doubles team of Daniella Shved (Holon, Isreal-ORT Holon) and Wanyi Zhang (Bejing, China-Crnjanski Gimnzija (Serbia)) continued their excellent chemistry on the court, winning in dominant fashion, 6-0, at the No. 2 spot.

The No. 3 pairing of Andrea Quiroz (Lima, Peru-La Molina 1278-Alcorn State) and Linda Eloundou Nga (Yaounde, Cameroon-Augustine Meyou-New Mexico Military Institute) was also outstanding, surrendering just three games in a 6-3 victory.

The EMU lineup was outstanding in singles play as well, picking up five points, at the No. 1-5 positions, respectively.

Quiroz set the tone at the No. 1 spot, dropping just five games in a 6-2, 6-3 win. In the No. 2 spot, Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India-Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics) was challenged to a third set, but showed incredible resilience in pulling off the win (6-0, 3-6, 6-1).

The No. 3 and No. 4 positions were controlled by Zhang and Shved, respectively. The duo used momentum from their doubles victory to deliver straight-set victories in each of their singles matches. Zhang won, 6-3, 6-4, while Shved dominated, 6-3, 6-1.

Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava) finished off the scoring for EMU in the No. 5 spot. After surrendering three games in a first-set win, 6-3, she closed the door on any comeback hopes by BGSU, winning the second, 6-0, to close the match.
