YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – It will be a busy week for the Eastern Michigan University men's and women's track and field teams as the Eagles will travel to a trio of meets. They will compete at the Texas Relays at the University of Texas (Mar. 29-Apr. 1), the Bobcat Invitational at Texas State University (Mar. 30-Apr. 1) and the Spartan Invitational at Michigan State University, Friday and Saturday, March 31-April 1.
LAST TIME OUT: Baldvin Magnusson (Akureyri, Iceland-Hull University) ran the second fastest time in school history and placed third in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:40.36 and ran a personal best in the 10,000 meters to place tenth posting a time of 28:57.17, placing him fifth on the EMU all-time list in the event to highlight the weekend for the Eagles.
Magnussson's time in the 1,500 meters was the best time in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) this season and the third best mark in NCAA Division I this spring while his time in the 10,000 meters was the second best performance in the MAC and is 17th in NCAA Division I this season.
The Eagles posted seven top ten finishes and posted 10 personal bests over the three day meet as the men's team had five top tens as well as seven personal records and the women's team posted a pair top ten finishes as well three personal bests to lead the way.
Eric Haddock Jr. (Raleigh, N.C.-Southeast Raleigh-Appalachian State) took fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 15.10 meters (49 feet, 6.5 inches) and was tenth in the long jump (6.80 meters/22 feet, 3.75 inches).
Newlyn Stephenson (Gary, Ind.-Thea Bowman Leadership Academy) was fourth in the hammer (63.47 meters/208 feet, 3 inches). Brendan Hill (Huber Heights, Ohio-Wayne) tied for fifth in the high jump with a jump of 2.01 meters (6 feet, 7 inches) while Toby Gualter's (Tawa, New Zealand-Tawa College) time of 29:01.77 was a personal best and the sixth best time in school history as he placed 21st in the 10,000 meters.
Micah Martin (Clinton Township, Mich.-L'anse Creuse) was the top performer for the women's team as she placed in the top 10 in her first collegiate outdoor jump as she was ninth in the high jump with a mark of 1.67 meters (5 feet, 5.75 inches) while Kyra Buffen (Columbus, Ga.-Buford-Benedict) posted a personal best in the triple jump with a leap of 12.23 meters (40 feet, 1.5 inches) to place tenth.
