Tennis Dominates Bowling Green, 6-1, For First MAC Victory

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team picked up its first Mid-American Conference victory of the season today, March 26, with a 6-1 decision over Bowling Green State University inside the Chippewa Club.
The win moves Eastern Michigan's (4-4, 1-2 MAC) overall record back to an even ledger on the season, and breaks a two-match losing skid for the Green and White. Bowling Green (6-9, 0-3 MAC) is left searching for its first conference win after the setback.
How it Happened
Eastern Michigan wasted no time collecting the doubles point in today's match. The doubles team of Daniella Shved (Holon, Isreal-ORT Holon) and Wanyi Zhang (Bejing, China-Crnjanski Gimnzija (Serbia)) continued their excellent chemistry on the court, winning in dominant fashion, 6-0, at the No. 2 spot.
The No. 3 pairing of Andrea Quiroz (Lima, Peru-La Molina 1278-Alcorn State) and Linda Eloundou Nga (Yaounde, Cameroon-Augustine Meyou-New Mexico Military Institute) was also outstanding, surrendering just three games in a 6-3 victory.
The EMU lineup was outstanding in singles play as well, picking up five points, at the No. 1-5 positions, respectively.
Quiroz set the tone at the No. 1 spot, dropping just five games in a 6-2, 6-3 win. In the No. 2 spot, Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India-Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics) was challenged to a third set, but showed incredible resilience in pulling off the win (6-0, 3-6, 6-1).
The No. 3 and No. 4 positions were controlled by Zhang and Shved, respectively. The duo used momentum from their doubles victory to deliver straight-set victories in each of their singles matches. Zhang won, 6-3, 6-4, while Shved dominated, 6-3, 6-1.
Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava) finished off the scoring for EMU in the No. 5 spot. After surrendering three games in a first-set win, 6-3, she closed the door on any comeback hopes by BGSU, winning the second, 6-0, to close the match.
