RALEIGH, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's track and field teams competed at Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State University this weekend, March 23-25.
How It Happened
The Eagles posted seven top 10 finishes and posted 10 personal bests over the three day meet.
The men's team had five top 10s as well as seven personal records while the women's team posted a pair top 10 finishes and three personal bests to lead the way.
Baldvin Magnusson (Akureyri, Iceland - Hull University) ran the second fastest time in school history and placed third of 196 runners in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:40.36. Paul McMullen holds the record with a time of 3:38.74 set in 1995. Magnussson's previous best time was 3:40.74 which was third all-time at EMU.
Magnusson also ran a personal best in the 10,000 meters to place tenth posting a time of 28:57.17, placing him fifth on the EMU all-time list in the event while Toby Gualter's (Tawa, New Zealand-Tawa College) time of 29:01.77 was a personal best and the sixth best time in school history as he placed 21st in the event.
Eric Haddock Jr. (Raleigh, N.C.-Southeast Raleigh-Appalachian State) took fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 15.10 meters (49 feet, 6.5 inches) and was tenth in the long jump (6.80 meters/22 feet, 3.75 inches).
Newlyn Stephenson (Gary, Ind.-Thea Bowman Leadership Academy) was fourth in the hammer (63.47 meters/208 feet, 3 inches).
Brendan Hill (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne) tied for fifth in the high jump with a jump of 2.01 meters (6 feet, 7 inches).
On the women's side, Micah Martin (Clinton Township, Mich.-L'anse Creuse) placed in the top 10 in her first collegiate outdoor jump as she placed ninth in the high jump with a mark of 1.67 meters (5 feet, 5.75 inches).
Kyra Buffen (Columbus, Ga.-Buford-Benedict) posted a personal best in the triple jump with a leap of 12.23 meters (40 feet, 1.5 inches) to place tenth.

» A trio of runners led by Magnusson ran personal bests in the 1,500 meters as Linus Vennemann (Osnabrück, Lower Saxony, Germany Gymnasium "In der Wüste") (3:47.26) placed 38th and Marcus Kemp (Kitchener, Ontario - St. Mary's Kitchener - Providence) (3:48.13) was 35th while posting personal best times.
» Vennemann also ran a personal best time of 1:51.34 to place 33rd in the 800 meters.
» Eddie Zuercher (Rocky Rivers, Ohio - Rocky River) ran a personal best time of 14:34.93 to place 120th in the 5,000 meters.
» Isabella Brent (Dearborn Heights, Mich.-Divine Child) had a personal best throw of 162 feet, five inches, the tenth best throw in program history to place 37th in the hammer.
» Chloie Musta (Mesnick, Mich.-Cadillac) posted a personal best time of 2:14.25 in the 800 meters and placed 74th.
