The Eagles welcome MAC foes Western Michigan and Bowling Green, Friday and Sunday, respectively
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team returns to action with a pair of Mid-American Conference matches this weekend in Ypsilanti. The Eagles will host Western Michigan University Friday, March 24, at 1 p.m. before welcoming Bowling Green State University Sunday, March 26, at 1 p.m. Both matches will take place inside the Chippewa Club, and are free to the public.
Eastern Michigan (3-3, 0-1 MAC) is looking to move back above .500 on the season. Eastern Michigan is coming off a tough, 7-0 loss to the University of Toledo, March 18. Despite the point score, EMU was incredibly competitive, forcing third sets in three singles matches.
Western Michigan (9-4, 0-1 MAC) is also looking to pick up a win after most recently experiencing defeat. The Broncos, despite being five matches above .500 on the season, are coming off a 7-0 setback at Ball State University, March 18. Prior to its loss to the Cardinals, WMU was on a four-match winning streak.
Bowling Green (6-7, 0-1 MAC) will play at home against Miami University Friday before heading to Ypsilanti for the Sunday affair with the Eagles. The Falcons are currently on a two match skid after falling to Oakland University, 4-3, March 18, and most recently to Northern Illinois University, 6-1, March 19.
LAST TIME OUT: EMU forced third sets in three matches, but ultimately came up short, 7-0, to Toledo at Twos Athletic Club in Toledo, Ohio.
The match started with doubles play, where Toledo was able to secure two of the three matches to pick up the match's doubles point. The duo of Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India-Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics) and Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava) showed signs of success against the Rockets, picking up three games in the first set at the No. 2 doubles posting. Their match went unfinished.
Eastern continued to battle in its singles matches, forcing third sets at three positions (No. 2, No. 4, No. 6). Despite third-set efforts from Vichare, Daniella Shved (Holon, Isreal-ORT Holon) and Linda Eloundou Nga (Yaounde, Cameroon-Augustine Meyou-New Mexico Military Institute), it was the Rockets who were able to claim all six singles points in the competition, and finish of the 7-0 victory.
Eastern Michigan forced third sets in three singles matches. That number is the most for the Eagles in any setback this season. In EMU's previous setbacks, they forced third sets in just two matches, respectively.
