ORLANDO, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's track and field teams, which both won the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships, will begin the outdoor portion of the schedule this weekend at the Black and Gold Invite at the University of Central Florida in Orlando on Friday and Saturday, March 17-18.

LAST TIME OUT: The men and women's teams swept the MAC team indoor titles for the fourth time in program history as the Eagles won both championships in 1997, 2000 and 2018.

The men won the MAC Indoor Track and Field Championship for the third straight season and then last weekend, senior Newlyn Stephenson (Gary, Ind.-Thea Bowman Leadership Academy) closed out his indoor track and field career by earning USTFCCCA First Team All-America honors for the first time as he placed seventh in the weight throw at the 2023 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the University of New Mexico.

Baldvin Magnusson (Akureuri, Iceland-Hull University) was named the 2023 MAC Men's Most Outstanding Performer and Most Outstanding Track Performer after winning three individual championships as he won the mile, the 3,000 and 5,000 meters. Five Eagles combined to win eight individual championships as Kaleb Simpson (Bexley, Ohio-St. Charles Preparatory) won a pair of titles as he captured both the 60 meters and 200 meters.

Angel Gazaway (Cincinnati, Ohio-Princeton) was the only individual champion on the women's side, but Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla.-The-Out-Of-Door-Academy) was the top scorer with 16 points as she placed second in both the 60 meters and the 200 meters.

LAST YEAR: The Eagles placed second at the MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships while the women's team took third.

Magnusson was named the Men's Most Valuable Performer as won the 1,500 meters, 5,000 meters and the 10,000 meters to lead the Eagles on the men's side.

Mair Edwards (Basingstoke England-The Costello School) won the 400 meters and was part of the winning 4x100 relay to highlight the women's performance at the MAC Championship last seaso
