BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's indoor track and field teams will compete at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Indoor Championships, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25, in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Almighty Williamson (Baltimore, Md.-Digital Harbor-Barton C.C.) won the 60 meter hurdles in 7.93 while Toby Gualter (Tawa, New Zealand-Tawa College) took second in both the 3,000 meters (8:22.52) and the 5,000 meters (14:22.96).
Also placing in the top three last season and returning for Eastern Michigan are Kaleb Simpson (Bexley, Ohio-St. Charles Preparatory), who was second in the 60 meters (6.78) while Richie Sadler (Greenville, S.C.-Greer-Coastal Carolina) was third in the 400 meters (48.84) and Ousman Kamara (Coatesville, Pa.-Coatesville) was third in the high jump (2.05 meters).
On the women's side, the Eagles placed second last season behind Akron and return three athletes that placed in the top four last season.
Alysse Wade (Mansfield, Ohio-St. Peter's) was third in the 60 meter hurdles in 8.38, Kilani Harvey (Orlando, Fla.-Jones-Highland C.C.) was fourth in the 60 meters (7.60) and Chevonne Wheeler (Redford, Mich.-Divine Child) placed fourth in the 800 meters (2:12.61).
LAST TIME OUT: The men's team posted four individual champions, four second place finishes and a trio of third place finishers while the women's team had eight top three finishes at the Silverston Invitational at the University of Michigan on Friday.
The Eagles took three of the top four spots in the long jump as Eric Haddock Jr., (Raleigh, N.C./Southeast Raleigh-Appalachian State) won with a leap of 6.88 meters, Formula Thompson (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Jamaica College-Nebraska) was second (6.66 meters) and Dahndray Holmes (Clarksville, Tenn./Rossview-Highland CC) placed fourth (6.39 meters).
Sadler won the triple jump (14.82 meters) while Haddock Jr. was second (14.38 meters).
Linus Venneman (Osnabruck, Lower Saxony, Germany-Gymnasium "In der Wuste") won the 800 meters and set a PR with a time of 1:52.25.
Also placing second for Eastern Michigan was Newlyn Stephenson (Gary, Ind.-Bowman Leadership Academy) in the weight throw (22.61 meters).
On the women's side, Wade won the 60 meter hurdles (8.50) to lead the Eagles.
Five Eagles placed second, Angel Gazaway (Cincinnati, Ohio-Princeton) in the 60 meter hurdles (8.57), Antonia Woods (Winchester Ohio-Grovesport Madison) in the long jump (5.53 meters), Miranda Cadwell (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield South) and in the weight throw (17.95 meters), Nyla Joseph-Guevara (Coral Springs, Fla.-Fort Lauderdale) in the triple jump with a personal best of 11.11 meters and Maura Lane (Cary, N.C.-Panther Creek-Campbell) in the pole vault (3.66 meters).
