Men's Golf Inks Three for 2024-25 Campaign

James Baxter, Guillaume Paquette, and Matthew Rastogi are headed to Ypsilanti

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University Head Men's Golf Coach Bruce Cunningham announced today, Nov. 16, that James Baxter (London, England/Highlands School & Sixth Form), Guillaume Paquette  (La Minerve, Quebec/Baylor School), and Matthew Rastogi (Toronto, Ontario/Bayview Glen Independent) will be joining the Eagles for the 2024-25 season.

"We are excited to welcome this impressive group of student-athletes who have all competed at the highest level both nationally and internationally," Cunningham said. "Each of them are extremely talented, brilliant students, and possess elite skill sets with a laser focus work ethic. We fully expect all three to make an immediate positive impact and help us win both on the golf course and in the classroom."

As a distinguished member of the U-18 England Regional Squad, Baxter has showcased his talent on prestigious stages. In the R & A British Boys Amateur, he demonstrated his prowess with rounds of 71-73, securing an impressive 17th position. The Faldo Series-England Championship saw him claim the fourth spot with scores of 68-74-73, emphasizing his consistency and competitive edge.

At the English U-18 (Carris Trophy), Baxter exhibited resilience and skill with rounds of 70-69-76-75, earning him a commendable T-30th position. His journey continued with notable performances at the ProDream English Open (20th, 74-72-74) and the Frilford Heath Open, where he clinched victory with rounds of 71-71.

Baxter further solidified his standing in the golfing community with top finishes at the Faldo Series-England South Championship (15th, 70-77-75) and the Hertfordshire Boys Championship, where he emerged as the champion with rounds of 70-72.

Hailing from Quebec, Paquette has left an incredible mark on the amateur circuit with a series of impressive performances. In the Quebec Duc of Kent Amateur, he secured a second place finish with rounds of 70-73, showcasing both skill and consistency. Guillaume continued to shine at the Quebec Men's Amateur, claiming a tie for fourth position with a composed performance of 74-72-74-72.

His journey extended to national competitions, including the RCGA Canadian JUNIOR Boys Championship, where he finished tied for 29th with rounds of 70-69-72-75. The Niagara Canada Summer Games witnessed his exceptional form, securing a runner-up finish with rounds of 70-68-69-71.

Paquette's talent extends beyond borders, evident in his participation in the Team Canada Selection Camp, where he finished seventh with rounds of 74-72-69. Notable performances in the Tennessee High School State Championship (t-fourth, 71-71) and a 12th-place finish in the RCGA Canadian JUNIOR Boys Championship (73-74-72-74) further highlight his prowess.

At the AJGA Memorial Junior, Rastogi's stellar rounds of 71-74-70 secured a commendable third place. This success was mirrored at the AJGA at Windham Mountain, where his consistent play, marked by scores of 71-73-70, earned him another finish in third.

His versatility was on full display at the Ontario Junior Boys, clinching third in the U17 category with scores of 69-73-73. Despite facing tough competition in the Ontario Junior Boys U19 Championship (T13, 73-72-73-76) and U17 Championship (T8, 72-70-72), Rastogi's resilience and skill position him as a formidable force.
