The EMU alum posted a mark of 17.14m in the 11-man field
EUGENE, Ore. (EMUEagles.com) — Former Eastern Michigan University track & field standout Donald Scott finished sixth in the triple jump at the World Athletics Championships, July 23, at Hayward Field. The eight-time Mid-American Conference Champion tallied a season-best mark of 17.14m.
Portugal's Pedro Pichardo (17.95m) outlasted Burkina Faso's Hugues Fabrice Zango (17.55m) and China's Zhu Yaming (17.31m) to continue his reign at the top of the triple jump competition. Pichardo won triple jump gold at the Tokyo Olympic Games, but the gold he earned on Saturday was his first on the World Championships stage.
Italians Andrea Dallavalle and Emmanuel Ihemeje finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Ihemeje, who won the NCAA title in June, entered the final round at his first World Championships in sixth place. On that jump he produced 17.14m, which vaulted him into fifth ahead of Scott.
Fellow Eastern alum Lahsene Bouchikhi completed in the marathon for his home country of Belgium at the Championships, but did not finish the event.
