Luka Savicevic Set to Play in FIBA U20 Euro Championships

Sophomore will represent North Macedonia in Division B event in Tbilisi, Georgia
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Luka Savicevic (So./Skopje, North Macedonia/Sports Academy Skopje), a rising sophomore with the Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team, will once again represent his native North Macedonia in international competition as the Lions are set for action at the 2022 FIBA U20 European Championships, Division B tournament in Tbilisi, Georgia. North Macedonia opens play in Group B Friday, July, 15, against Austria.
The tournament, which sees the Top 2 place winners earn promotion to Division A, begins July 15 and runs through July 24. North Macedonia is set for four games in group action, opening with Austria on July 15 (1:15 pm ET) before taking on Sweden (8:45 am ET) and Kosovo (6:30 pm ET) on July 16 and July 17, respectively. After a few days rest, the Lions take on host Georgia (11 am ET) on July 20 to conclude group play. All games will be streamed live and free on YouTube.com/FIBA.
From there, the Top 2 finishers in each of the four groups will advance to the quarterfinals, which start July 22, with the eight teams playing out a mini tournament to determine the Top 4 finishers. Additionally on July 22, two other smaller events will begin with Classification 9th-12th and Classification 17-19th take place. The 9th-12th event will feature the teams finishing third and fourth in their respective groups and will be joined by the losing teams from the quarterfinal round. From there, the teams play out a tournament that will see the losers of the first round fall to the Classification 13th-16th event while the winning sides will play in Classification 5th-8th. Additionally, the three teams that finish fifth in their groups (A, B and D), will play a round robin against one another to determine Classification 17th-19th finishes.
Savicevic is no stranger to sporting the red and yellow in European competitions as this year's event will mark his fourth appearance. Most recently, he played in the 2021 European U20 Championships where he averaged 3.6 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists in five games and North Macedonia went 2-3 in group play. Prior to that, his side when 5-2 at the 2020 U18 Euros where he averaged 7.0-3.3-5.4 after going 6-2 in the 2019 U16 event with Savicevic averaging 9.9-4.0-5.5.
Last year, Savicevic appeared in 23 contests for Eastern and earned four starts in his debut season in Ypsilanti. Averaging 3.2 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per contest, Savicevic shot 32.9 percent from the floor and was 31.6 percent from beyond the arc as well. His top performance game against Ohio when he posted 11 points on 3-of-3 shooting from three.
