Track & Field Earns USTFCCCA Academic Awards

The Eagles earned team and individual all-academic honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University track & field program earned United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honors for the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons, the organization announced today, July 13. Both teams, as well as eight total individuals, received all-academic distinction.

To earn USTFCCCA Team All-Academic honors, the cumulative grade-point average of all student-athletes on the institution's NCAA Squad List for Indoor and/or Outdoor Track & Field must be 3.0-or-higher on a 4.0 scale. The women's team notched a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.476, while the men achieved a GPA of 3.30.

The criteria to be named an all-academic athlete, individuals must have a grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale (including the most recent grading period) and completed at least two semesters or three quarters at the nominating institution. Additionally, for the indoor season, student-athletes must have finished the season ranked in the top 96 in any championship individual event, or in the top 48 in any championship relay event, for the most recent indoor season, certifiable by their place on final season performance lists on TFRRS for Indoor Track and Field (including performances achieved outside the qualifying window during the indoor season). Lastly, for the outdoor season, student-athletes must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships (the Preliminary Championship Competition and/or the Final Championship Competition) or for the multi-events, must have finished the season ranked in the top 48 in the East or top 48 in the West for the most recent outdoor season, certifiable by their place on the NCAA Division I.

A pair of Eagles on the women's side were tabbed with the distinction in 2022 graduate Kadian Clarke and sophomore Kilani Harvey (Orlando, Fla.-Jones (Morehead State)). Meanwhile, six members of the men's team earned the honor: graduates Solomon Costa (Gahanna, Ohio-Gahanna-Lincoln) and Chukwusom Enekwechi (Valley Stream, N.Y.-Jamaica Gateway to the Sciences (Monroe College)), juniors Baldvin Magnusson (Akureyri, Iceland-Hull University), Newlyn Stephenson (Gary, Ind.-Thea Bowman Leadership Academy), and sophomore Almighty Williamson (Baltimore, Md.-Digital Harbor (Barton C.C.)).
