CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Mid-American Conference announced game times and television selections for eight Eastern Michigan University football games during the 2022 season. Included among those games are three home contests against Central Michigan, Eastern Kentucky, and UMass, along with five away games at Akron, Arizona State, Ball State, Kent State, and Louisiana. All remaining game kick times and television appearances will be announced 12 days prior to the scheduled games.
Since the start of the 2008 campaign, Eastern Michigan has been a part of 133 televised games. A total of 93 of those small-screen appearances have occurred on the ESPN-family of networks (45 ESPN3, 18 ESPN+, 9 ESPNU, 5 ESPN Regional, 5 ESPN2, 4 SEC Network, 4 ESPN, 1 ESPNews, 1 ESPN Classic, and 1 ABC). Eastern has also been a part of 13 nationally televised games on CBS Sports Network.
The 2022 schedule features six home games for the 10th-time since the turn of the century. Of the six games inside "The Factory" at Rynearson Stadium, five will be played before the month of October concludes. Furthermore, Eastern will defend the gray turf for four-of-six games between Sept. 24 and Oct. 29.
Season tickets are on sale at EMUEagles.com/tickets, by calling 734.487.3669, or by visiting the EMU Ticket Office. Eastern Michigan continues to offer the Ultimate Fan Season Ticket Plan for just $144. This package includes a wide chairback with armrests on the 50-yard line along with VIP season parking. Chairback Season Tickets are $108 and include a chairback in Reserved Sections 104-109. Reserved Season Tickets are just $99 (Reserved Sections 104-109), while General Admission Season Tickets are $75 (Sections 110-114 and the visiting side).
Eastern kicks off the year Friday, Sept. 2, at 7 p.m. on the gray turf of "The Factory" against Eastern Kentucky. ESPN3 will showcase the Labor Day weekend affair. It marks the first meeting against EKU since 1971, when the teams combined for the rare 0-0 tie on Homecoming. Additionally, it will also be the first college football game in the state of Michigan for any of the state's five Football Bowl Subdivision squads.
From there, the Eagles trek to the bayou to battle defending Sun Belt Conference Champion, Louisiana, Sept. 10. The 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT) matchup against the Ragin' Cajuns will be shown on a yet to be determined network.
Eastern remains on the road with a trip to Tempe, Ariz. to take on Arizona State, Sept. 17. The 11 p.m. ET (8 p.m. MST) matchup against the Sun Devils will mark EMU's first appearance on the Pac-12 Network. For channel availability, visit Pac-12.com/GetPac-12Networks or contact your local television provider. In the Ypsilanti area, the game will be shown on Xfinity channel 1329 or DISH Network 406.
Eastern Michigan opens its 47th MAC season at home against Buffalo Saturday, Sept. 24. It marks just the third-time the Eagles and Bulls have lifted the lid on the conference slate, the pair split the previous two occurrences in 2004 (EMU, 37-34) and 2018 (UB, 35-28).
The non-conference schedule concludes Saturday, Oct. 1, with a 2 home date against Massachusetts. The 2 p.m. will serve as EMU's Homecoming contest. Previously a member of MAC, the Minutemen last traveled to Ypsilanti in 2015. Last season in Amherst, the Eagles racked up more than 500 yards of total offense en route to a 42-28 win.
The Battle for the Michigan MAC Trophy gets underway Saturday, Oct. 8, as Eastern treks west on I-94 to play Western Michigan. EMU has bested Western in the most recent trio of meetings, including a 22-21 come-from-behind victory last season to earn its seventh win of the year. The Green and White will attempt to make a run at history, as they have never defeated the Broncos in four consecutive seasons.
Northern Illinois invades Rynearson Stadium Saturday, Oct. 15, before the Eagles hit the road to Muncie, Ind. to battle Ball State Saturday, Oct. 22. The programs have claimed the last two MAC Championships, as Eastern looks to bring home its first league title since the 1987 campaign.
The slate of Saturday contests concludes Oct. 29 when Toledo crosses the border. Last season, Eastern Michigan fought back from a four-point halftime deficit to take down the Rockets, 52-49, in the Glass Bowl. It was the program's first win on the Rocket's home field since the 1999 season.
The schedule shifts to the bright lights of national television and midweek affairs for the final three games.
Ninth-year Head Coach Chris Creighton and his team square off against Akron Tuesday, Nov. 8. The contest will kickoff at 7 or 7:30 p.m. ET and be featured on either ESPN2, ESPNU, or CBS Sports Network. Another trip to northeast Ohio to tangle with defending MAC East Division Champion, Kent State, Wednesday, Nov. 16. Once again the contest will be shown on either ESPN2, ESPNU, or CBS Sports Network at 6, 7, or 8 p.m. ET.
The regular season concludes on "Black Friday" versus Central Michigan, Nov. 25, at 12 p.m. Eastern and Central will meet on the gridiron for the 100th time in history between the two programs. The EMU-CMU series is the longest-running rivalry between any two MAC schools. The nation will have a chance to view the affair on either ESPNU or CBSSN.
The 26th Rocket Mortgage MAC Football Championship game will again take place in downtown Detroit on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 12 p.m. This will mark the MAC's 19th football championship game at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, Super Bowl XL, and the 2009 NCAA Men's Final Four.
EMU put together yet another impressive season in 2021, adding to the success that has come to define the last eight years. Eastern (7-6) clinched a winning record, the third under Creighton; Prior to Creighton's arrival, Eastern had not had a winning record since the 1989 season.
The Eagles also played in their fourth bowl game in the previous six seasons when they faced Liberty in the LendingTree Bowl, Dec. 18, in Mobile, Ala. Prior to 2016, Eastern had reached bowl eligibility just twice in its history and had earned the opportunity to play in a postseason bowl just once (1987 California Bowl).
The MAC's 2022 Football Kickoff Celebration and Media Days are set for July 25-26 in Cleveland, Ohio.
