Eastern Michigan Falls to Central Michigan Friday

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University baseball team dropped its series opener, 7-1, versus Central Michigan University Friday afternoon, May 13, inside Oestrike Stadium.
Senior Thomas House (Ross, Ohio-Ross) (1-7) started and took the loss on the mound for Eastern Michigan (21-28, 15-18 MAC). The right-hander went six innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on six hits, allowing three walks, and striking out five. Junior Tyler Helgeson (Portage, Mich.-Portage Northern) was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning while allowing one hit.
In the batter's box, the Eagles were led by freshman Logan Hugo (Essexville, Mich.-Essexville Garber), who went 1-for-4 on the day with a home run and an RBI. Senior Taylor Hopkins (Mason, Ohio-Archbishop Moeller) put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4. Freshman Aaron Dolney (Plymouth, Mich.-Detroit Country Day (Nebraska)) also contributed for Eastern Michigan, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double.
How It Happened
The Eagles were trailing 3-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Hugo put Eastern Michigan on the board with a leadoff home run off senior Jordan Patty. The Eagles were unable to get any closer, as Central Michigan added four runs to their tally on the way to a 7-1 final.

» Eastern Michigan pitchers faced 43 Central Michigan hitters in the game, allowing 11 ground balls and nine fly balls while striking out six.
» Hugo led the Eagles at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a home run and an RBI. The homer is Hugo's fourth of the season and his 20th RBI. Hugo's home run and RBI totals are the second-highest marks by any freshman on the team (Dolney - 6 HR & 23 RBIs). With the round-tripper, Hugo extends his hitting streak to five games, tied for the longest active streak on the squad (Shane Easter (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Comstock) - 5).
» Hopkins tallied multiple hits for the 15th time this season, six of those instances coming in the last 10 contests.
» Dolney also finished with a hit, to extend his hitting streak to four games.
