EMU sprinters record six top-10 finishes in the Sunshine State
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University track & field program concluded its busy weekend with solid performances at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational, Tennessee Relays, and Golden Grizzlies Invite today, April 9.
"We had some bright spots from the weekend and also some things that could have gone better," said Director/Head Coach Sue Parks. "The weather was a factor at Oakland and Tennessee but we have to learn to be mentally tough in all conditions. Overall, we took some steps forward this weekend and that's what we need to be doing at this point of the season."
"Today gave us a lot of momentum towards the second half of the season," added Associate Head Coach Chris Best. "The kids felt comfortable with the facility since it was our second time here. We saw a lot of personal and season bests. Get better each week and each meet is the goal."
How It Happened
The EMU sprinters and jumpers highlighted Eastern's busy Saturday. Freshman Tajay Roberts (Sunrise, Fla.-Dillard) placed seventh in the 400m dash with a personal-best time of 47.84, becoming the first Eagle to clock in under 48 seconds in the event since 2019. Sophomore Kaleb Simpson (Bexley, Ohio-St. Charles Preparatory) paced the Green and White in the 100m dash with a 10.60 clip. Later in the day, Simpson recorded a season-best 200m dash time of 21.16 for fifth.
The men's 4x100 crew of sophomore Almighty Williamson (Baltimore, Md.-Digital Harbor (Barton C.C.)), Simpson, sophomore Kyle Martin (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Ann Arbor Huron), and junior Richie Sadler (Greenville, S.C.-Greer (Coastal Carolina)) registered a time of 40.70 to finish runner-up.
Freshman Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla.-The-Out-of-Door-Academy) and sophomore Kilani Harvey (Orlando, Fla.-Jones (Morehead State)) went 5-6 in the 100 with personal-best times of 11.83 and 11.85, respectively.
In the field, senior Baboucar Sallah-Mohammed (Windhoek, Namibia-Fishburne Military (Va.) (Bethany College)) finished fifth in the long jump (7.36m) and triple jump (15.06m).
Down in Knoxville, Tenn., sophomore Miranda Cadwell (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield South) produced a discus throw of 45.58m, .08 meters shy of tying the school record. Elsewhere in the field, senior Alisha St. Louis (D'abadie, Trinidad and Tobago-St. Francois Girls College (Johnson C. University)) recorded a season-best triple jump of 11.76m for fifth.
Back in Michigan, junior Chevonne Wheeler (Redford, Mich.-Divine Child) placed second in her first collegiate heptathlon (4,285 points), highlighted by a first-place finish in the 800m (2:21.96). Meanwhile, freshman Maleah Scott (Farmington, Minn.-Farmington) took seventh in the heptathlon with 3,566 points.
On the track, junior Lexi Seifert (Waterford, Pa.-Villa Maria Academy) battled the cold to record a 4:40.48 time in the 1500m race.

Historical Notes
» Eastern's 4x100 time of 40.70 was the program's fastest since 2019 when former Eagles Sean Beckom II, Terrell Posada, Tyler Underwood, and Owen Richardson clocked in at 40.42 at the Mid-American Conference Championships, May 12. Additionally, 40.70 would have placed EMU second at last year's league title meet.
» Robert's 47.84 time in the 400m dash is the first time an Eagle has run the event in under 48 seconds since Tyler Underwood recorded a 46.98 clip at the 2019 NCAA East Regional in the semifinals, May 24.
