Eastern Drops Road Match at Northern Illinois, 4-3

The Eagles are back in action Sunday, April 10, against the Buffalo Bulls
DEKALB, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team dropped a road match, 4-3, to the Northern Illinois University Friday, April 8. The loss puts the Eagles at 14-13 overall, and 2-4 in Mid-American Conference play.
"With both teams playing without crucial players, NIU did what was necessary to get the job done," said Head Coach Jayson Wiseman.
How It Happened
Eastern started the match well with a 6-2 win from the No. 1 pairing of freshmen Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnazium Jana Blahoslava) and Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India-College of Commerce and Economics). Clinching the doubles point for EMU were redshirt seniors Luisa Pelayo (Porto, Portugal-Colegio CEBES (Wright State)) and Grace Whitney (Imlay City, Mich.-Imlay City (Wright State)). The No. 3 duo of Pelayo and Whitney were down early but fought back to a 6-4 win and snapped a five-match losing streak.
Brichackova, playing in the two spot, battled through three sets to pick up her second consecutive win. The freshman is 3-0 when playing at No. 2. Redshirt junior Emma-Lou Pommiers (Aire-sur-l'Adour, France-Saint Dominique Pau) defeated her opponent 7-5, 6-0 at No. 4. The Green and White were unable to earn the road win, falling 3-4.
