EMU Tennis Primed for MAC-Packed Weekend

The Eagles travel to Northern Illinois, April 8, and will host Buffalo, April 10
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team is primed for two matches this weekend, starting in DeKalb, Ill. where it will take on Northern Illinois University Friday, April 8, at 1 p.m. CT. EMU then returns home to host the University at Buffalo Sunday, April 10. Those matchups are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively, at the Chippewa Club. The Eagles canceled their previously scheduled match with Ferris State University that would have been played following the contest with the Bulls.
Eastern (14-12, 2-3 MAC) had a successful weekend, besting both Ball State University and Wayne State University 4-3, April 1. Prior to the Friday meet-up, Ball State was undefeated in Mid-American Conference play. The Eagles hit the road Sunday and split an Ohio doubleheader, falling 4-3 to Miami University, before topping the University of Dayton, 5-2.
Redshirt senior Luisa Pelayo (Porto, Portugal-Colegio CEBES (Wright State)) was 3-1 in the No. 1 singles spot for EMU and earned her first win over a conference opponent this spring season. Pelayo is 9-12 in the one spot for the Green and White. In doubles, freshmen Sabina Brichackova (Cheb, Czech Republic-Gymnazium Jana Blahoslava) and Prerna Vichare (Mumbai, India-College of Commerce and Economics) made the jump to No. 1 and finished the weekend with three wins as well. The pair is now 18-4 overall and 5-1 in the one spot this season.
Northern Illinois (13-10, 0-5 MAC) is still in search of its first MAC win, having most recently lost to Ball State 6-1, April 3. Additionally, the Huskies have only won one of their last five with a 7-0 victory coming against Binghamton, March 27. Meanwhile, Buffalo (13-6, 2-3 MAC) came out on top over Bowling Green State University, April 3, with a close 4-3 win.
