Track & Field Readies for Split-Squad Weekend

The Eagles will head to Louisville, Ky. and Ashland, Ohio, April 29-30

LOUISVILLE, Ky. & ASHLAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan track & field program will be split up once more with meets at the University of Louisville and Ashland University Friday through Saturday, April 29-30.

Most of the team will be at Louisville's Clark Wood Invitational, with action at Cardinal Track Stadium set for 10 a.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, the throwers will compete at the Ashland Alumni Open, scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m.

Junior harrier Baldvin Magnusson (Akureyri, Iceland-Hull University) is set to make his season debut in the 1500m race at UL. Last year, Magnusson recorded a personal-best time of 3:40.74 in the event at the Rick Erdmann Twilight, April 17. Meanwhile, sophomore Toby Gualter (Tawa, New Zealand-Tawa College) will compete in his first outdoor 5K race of the year at the Clark Wood Invitational. Gualter recorded a personal-best time of 14:12.51 at the same meet.

Sophomore Miranda Cadwell (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield South) looks to improve her hammer and discus throws this weekend. Cadwell produced the sixth-furthest hammer throw in school history with a 54.37m effort last week at the Jesse Owens Classic, April 22. Moreover, the sophomore owns a season-best discus mark of 45.58, just .09 meters shy of surpassing her school record. Senior teammate Ariel Floyd (Mount Clemens, Mich.-Chippewa Valley (Olivet)) registered a season-best hammer throw of 54.82m in Columbus, Ohio, while her career-high is 56.79m, No.  5 in program history.

Junior Newlyn Stephenson (Gary, Ind.-Thea Bowman Leadership Academy) aims to move up in EMU's record book after recording the fifth-best hammer throw in program history, 64.46m, at the Tennessee Relays, April 7.Meanwhile, Senior Joe Duff (Crosswell, Mich.-Crosswell-Lexington (Concordia University)) also earned a top-five EMU mark in the javelin with a heave of 63.72m at th Jesse Owens Classic, April 22.
