HOLLAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Continuous improvement was again the story for the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team, as the squad was able to shave off six strokes from the previous round at the 2022 Mid-American Conference Championship, April 24. Head Coach Stephanie Jennings' club notched a 309 during Sunday's final round to finish in seventh place with a cumulative score of 954 (330-315-309) on the par-72, 6,158-yard Stone Oak Country Club course.

Of the 10 teams participating in the championship, Eastern was one of just three schools to post round over round improvement.

No. 43 Kent State captured its 23rd consecutive league title, finishing with an 889 (296-294-299). Northern Illinois University was the runner up with a 904, followed by Akron (926), Bowling Green (938), and Ball State (944). Toledo (949), EMU (954), Central Michigan (962), Western Michigan (977), and Ohio (996) rounded out the MAC standings.

The Huskies' Jasmine Ly claimed medalist honors by four shots with a one-under 215 (69-73-73). Golden Flashes' Chloe Salort was the runner-up with a 219 (73-72-74) followed by teammate Emily Price's 220 (70-73-77).

How It Happened
Sophomore Anna Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) recorded her seventh top-20 showing of the year, closing with a final round 76. The Ashland, Ohio native tied for 14th with a 233 (76-78-76), bettering her 16th-place finish last season.  Overall, Watson carded a pair of birdies on No. 7 and No. 11.

Junior Olivia Loberg (Bend, Ore.-Summit) saved her best for last, firing a one-under 71 to close the event with a 234 (86-77-71) in a tie for 18th. The showing was Loberg's highest finish of the spring and her second consecutive top-20 appearance at the MAC Championships.

Sophomore Sophia Wygonik (Westland, Mich.-Livonia Franklin) added a 244 (82-82-80) for a tie for 28th, while freshman Kyleigh Dull (Fremont, Ohio-Lakota) closed her stellar freshman campaign with a 247 (85-78-84) in a tie for 36th.

Sophomore Paige Zolciak (Perrysburg, Ohio-St. Ursula Academy) replaced freshman Alyssa DiMarcantonio (Maple, Ontario-Tommy Douglas Secondary School) for the final 18 holes and posted an 82 in her return to northwest Ohio. The tandem combined for a 251 (84-85-82) in 49th.

Historical Notes
Playing an underclassmen lineup, the future is bright for EMU after finishing the year with the eighth-lowest team scoring average in program history at 307.5. Overall, Eastern Michigan won three tournaments this season, including most recently a championship showing at the Lady Jaguar Invitational, April 16-17. EMU has also hoisted the trophy at the Golden Grizzly Invitational, Sept. 26-27, 2021, and the Shirley Spork Invitational, Oct. 4-5, 2021. It was just the fifth time (2006-07, 2007-08, 2011-12, 2019-20, and 2021-22) in program history that the squad has won at least three events during a single season.
