UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team finished in fifth place among 14 teams at the Rutherford Intercollegiate Sunday, April 17, on the par-71, 7,202-yard PSU Blue Course. The Eagles posted a final round 299 to finish with a two-day, 54-hole score of 879 (296-284-299).
Penn State captured the title with a score of 864, marking the seventh-straight year the Nittany Lions have claimed the event. PSU sophomore James Allen earned the individual title after defeating teammate Patrick Sheehan in a tiebreak, as the two Nittany Lions finished first and second atop the individual leaderboard.
No. 33 Michigan State finished as the runner up with an 866 followed by St. Mary's (Calif.) in third with an 869, Seton Hall was fourth at 871, and Eastern Michigan claimed fifth at 27-over par.
How It Happened
Senior Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) continued his resurgent play with a 217 (74-69-74) to finish in a tie for 11th. The best showing of the season for Mason, it marked his first top-15 finish since the 2021 Mid-American Conference Championship, April 30-May 1, 2021.
Sophomore Cam Kellett (London, Ontario-Saint Thomas Aquinas-Nevada) tied for 15th with a final round 73 for a two-day tally of 219 (75-71-73). Senior Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) tied for 23rd at 221 (71-72-78), while classmate Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) was 35th with a 223 (76-72-75). Sophomore MJ Smith (Rockford, Ill.-Winnebago) tied for 62nd with a 229 (76-76-77).
