Walkes Named MAC Female Track Athlete of the Week

The freshman set a 100m dash PR of 11.83 at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational, April 9
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University track & field program saw freshman Saraiah Walkes (Manatee County, Fla.-The-Out-of-Door-Academy) earn Mid-American Conference Track Athlete of the Week honors, announced the league office today, April 13. For Walkes, this is the first weekly MAC award of her career and is the first Eagle to earn the distinction in the outdoor season.
The first-year student-athlete recorded a personal-best 100m dash time of 11.83 at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational, April 9. Walkes also ran the first leg of the 4x400m relay where the Eagles took second in 3:43.95. The Manatee County, Fla. native's 100 time ranks second in the Mid-American Conference, while the team's 4x400 time of 3:43.51 set at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational, March 26, remains at No. 1 in the league. Additionally, the 4x400 crew's time of 3:43.51 is good for 37th for the East Region.
Up next for the Eagles, they will be split up between three meets tomorrow, April 14. A number of Eagles will be in California for the Azusa Pacific University's Bryan Clay Invitational, April 14-15. Additionally, others will be down the road at the Mt. SAC Relays, hosted by Mt. San Antonio College, April 14-15. The remaining members of the program will be in Michigan for Siena Heights University's Don Kleinow Invitational, April 14. Action in Azusa, Calif. begins at 7 a.m. PT and can be streamed on FloSports. Additionally, the other Golden State meet is set for 11 a.m. PT, while the events at SHU begin at 11 a.m. ET.
