The 2V8 provided a major lift for the squad
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University rowing team began its 2022 spring season racing against the No. 15-ranked University of Alabama today, March 5. The races took place along the Black Warrior River in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
In the first race of the day, Alabama's 3V8+ held off a late push from Eastern Michigan's 2V8+ to earn the win in 7:57.46, just over four seconds ahead of the Eagles' crew. The Crimson Tide swept the 4s race, with its 1V4+ boat leading the pack at 8:21.30. In the final race of the day, the Eagles' 1V8+ posted a time of 7:43.77.
Quoting Head Coach Kemp Savage
"We've had one of the best training trips I've had with EMU. As for the racing, we narrowed the gap on Alabama's boats after a much harder training week than last year. Particularly, we saw a really nice jump in the 2V8, and I was very happy with how the top boats raced their second half of the race. We're looking forward to getting out onto Ford Lake and finding some more speed."
