EMU Diving Preps for NCAA Zone Diving Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University diving team will send four divers to the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, March 7-9, hosted by the University of Michigan inside the Canham Natatorium.
Eastern divers competing include senior Bethany Berger (Batavia, Ohio-Glen Este), sophomore Keira Veltigian (Oxford, Mich.-Oxford), and freshmen Camryn Hughes (London, Ontario-Sir Frederick Banting Secondary) and Rebekah Knapp (Mesa, Ariz.-Skyline). Berger, Hughes, and Knapp each qualified for the 1-meter and 3-meter events while Veltigian qualified for the 1-meter event.
The diving zone championships will begin Monday, March 7, with the 1-meter preliminaries and championship. The 3-meter dive will take place Tuesday, March 8. Both days are set to begin at 1 p.m.
Zone C is allotted nine spots on 1-meter, 10 spots on 3-meter, and nine spots on the 10-meter platform diving. The top 18 divers after each preliminary round will advance to the championship rounds. For more information on the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, click here.
Berger tallied a season-best score of 315.68 in the 1-meter dive versus Ball State, Jan. 22. The senior diver also earned a season-high of 326.15 in the 3-meter dive in the Mid-American Conference Championships, Feb. 25. Veltigian qualified for the 1-meter event with a season-best score of 276.75 at the MAC Championships, Feb. 24.
Meanwhile, Hughes took bronze in the 1-meter at the MAC Championships, Feb. 24, with a score of 290.65 to qualify. Asa for the 3-meter, the freshman tallied a score of 299.9 at the league championships, Feb. 26.
Knapp came on late in the season, tallying a season-best score of 270.95 in the 1-meter at the MAC Championships, Feb. 24, and a score of 289.35 in the 3-meter in the same weekend, Feb. 26.
